None of the Ohio Marathons currently have this edict. In the first few years of the Drexel's 24 Hour Horrorthon, there was an in house rule like this, but it's long since been discarded.

Oops. My mistake, I was thinking of the B-fest:

...and apparently that is because of a local curfew.

For the record, I am not in favor of scheduling around children. I was just making the point that theaters do have to abide by some rules, even though they are privately owned businesses. I would think showing the truly hardcore stuff would mean restricting admission, though as I said I don't know for sure what the rules are.

Since so many movies are being "swiped" from the Boston marathon how about sending some of the Fests titles this way?

King Kong vs Godzilla
King Kong vs Mechi-Kong (sp?)
Black Sheep (2007 New Zeland)
Bad Taste
The Quiet Earth
Disney's Tomorrowland episodes
Disney's The Black Hole
Disney's Return to Oz

King Kong Escapes(aka King Kong Vs. Mecha Kong) is available. They are showing it at G-Fest(The Godzilla convention) this year. Wouldn't mind seeing some older Godzilla this year. There are prints for most everything floating around. Would love to see Godzilla Vs. The Smog Monster or Monster Zero. Plenty of choices out there.

It truly is a legendary story about the Boston Marathon.

BUT - what is this line, " in the afternoon there was a brief introduction for this film from an unknown Canadian director."??

Are you saying that DAVID CRONENBERG HIMSELF introduced the screening?

Oh, Bruce............

The infamous THEY CAME FROM WITHIN incident has been explained before, but it bears repeating. About two weeks before the 3rd annual Sci-Fi marathon, Boston was clobbered by the Blizzard of '78. Unless you were a police, fire or medical worker, it was illegal to drive in Boston for a week. All sorts of things were cancelled or closed. Cabin-fever set in..... And then it was time for the marathon! In the larger auditorium, seating about 400, in the afternoon there was a brief introduction for this film from an unknown Canadian director. If you've never seen it, this is my memory of how the film begins: A young schoolgirl, maybe 15, is returning to her apartment building. A middle aged man is chasing her. She tries to escape into her apartment, but he forces his way in and chases her around the room, finally catching and strangling her on the couch. He picks her up, puts her on a table and rips open her blouse. From a medical bag he was carrying he takes out a bottle and a scalpel, cuts her open, pours acid into the cut, and then cuts his own throat. This was 1978, pre-home video, pre-a lot of things that have desensitized us over the years and, while the intro had hinted that this might be a bit rough, this was Cambridge, political-correctness central. At least 100, maybe 150, people got up and walked out on the film. The rest of the film is rather mild in comparison to the brutal shock value of that opening scene. Among the walkouts were two who met and shared their dislike for the film. They went on to marry and, if I'm not mistaken, breed a new generation of marathoid. It was memorable. Next year will be the 30th anniversary!

Meanwhile it's sounding as if we'll have to make do with the PG-rated FLESH GORDON trailer.

West Roxbury and the time/space continuum? Only in Massachusetts do you go south-southeast to get from Northborough to Westborough and east to get from Northborough to Southborough. Them wacky Spacing Guild Navigators musta got loose out there! Or was it the Mooninites?

Hey, mind ya P's and Q's L.A. While his grammar is a bit off, I think it's pretty clear that our host organism is referring to TCFW as being the product of an unknown Canadian director. It had a brief introduction, hence the audience was not primed for it's impact. Five points off for him, but a full grade deduction to you for trying to stir things up here in the Midwest. And see me after class!

Ah yes, CAFE FLESH trailer. I laughed my ass off when that came on. It was just such a shock to see full-on 1980's porn in all it's hirsute glory on a big screen. I'm sure the kids in the audience got an education from it. You know, though, at least those kids could see a trailer for porn from when the producers at least tried to have some semblance of a plot!

It's no loss if FLESH GORDON falls through. It's certainly not the worst thing I've ever seen, but I think its reputation comes more from the fact that at the time of its release, you didn't see too many racy send-ups of Sci-Fi. It's pretty tame and, honestly, not the classic that its reputation implies.

I will say, however, that cheesy movies are always welcome in my book. Sure, it's fun to have a serious one every now and then but it's the Cinema du Fromage that keeps the masses awake.

Okay, I just saw the trailer for Black Sheep.

We totally need to have a combo or back-to-back showings of Food Of The Gods and Black Sheep!! Those two would make a great pair.

Here's the link to the Black Sheep trailer:

The compiled runtime of the comfimed features is about six hrs 58 min. That makes it 17hrs and 2min left of programming.

Not to be pushy but shouldn't the lineup be secured and a flyer be out and about by now!? It's kind of not surprising the attendance has been lower. If I remember correctly from the Drexel North days a lineup and flyer would be done by the beginning of Feb. in preparing for the 3rd weekend in April. Maybe it's because these events have been lacking the ballyhoo of past events. Where's the bag of buttons and goodies? Where's the large amount of movie posters at the end of the show? The guests? Let's get back the crowds of past and start having sellouts and raising the attendance by letting advance word out and such. I've already let the word out on Horrordvds.com. Hopefully a flyer will be ready by next Thursday from Bruce so I can spread the word at Cinema Wasteland. 1000s of possible ticket sales.
