Tickets go on sale at 6:00 PM at Strosacker Auditorium, CWRU. 36 hours of films.
No movies have been announced yet.
They will be announced next week. I'll post them here, or at Camera Obscura as soon as they come up. Their info page is at:

I'm tentatively still planning this. Starting a new job this week, so we'll see how well that's actually going to work out, but still planning to try.

They just announced some of the films for the Cleveland/CWRU Marathon.
Why only a partial list when the event is less than two weeks away, I have no idea.

John Carter (2012)
Westworld (1973)
Hugo (2011)
Iron Sky (2012)
Solaris (2002)
Them! (1954)
Watchmen (2009)

I think a few marathoids are planning to try and attend. If all goes well, you'll (hopefully) see me there.

Say hello if you come up.
I am the guy with a gray pony tail with a place on the stage, who tosses fruit to the audience before the Thon commences.
I usually put up out of towners before or after the event, having a quite large house about 20 minutes from CWRU. Let me know if you can use a place.
Cheers from the Mistake on the Lake.

I fear that with our family planning a trip to Disney, and my new work schedule keeping away from home more than I'd like, I'm going to be passing on the 'thon this year. Have fun!

Finally! The Cleveland list is out.
Cleveland has been described as a 36 hour marathon. It does look a little shorter this year, but they almost always run several hours late. Unlike Boston or Columbus they don't cut films because they are behind schedule.
Usually one of the surprises is a recent release. (Rise of the Planet of the Apes last year.) One is a turkey (Battlefield Earth two years ago) And one an old favorite (Dark Star & both versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers have shown up)
Anyway - the films.

8:00pm - John Carter (2012, PG-13)
10:30pm - Logan's Run (1976, PG)
12:45am - Surprise I (?, R)
3:50am - Westworld (1973, PG)
5:35am - Solaris (2002, R)
8:00am - Thunderbirds (2004, PG)
9:50am - It Came From Outer Space (1953, G)
11:30am - Surprise II (?, G)
1:00pm - Them! (1954, Approved)
3:00pm - Hugo (2011, PG) [Plus mini-surprise short!]
5:35pm - Surprise III (?, PG)
7:50pm - Iron Sky (2012, R)
9:40pm - Paranorman (2012, PG)
11:30pm - Watchmen (2009, R)

Been trying for DECADES to get WESTWORLD at the Boston 'thon to no avail.

The SOLARIS remake isn't nearly as bad as many make it out to be. It was one of the very rare films to get an "F" grade on the opening night Cinemascore rating service! But, if you haven't seen (and enjoyed) the Russian original, this version is damn near incomprehensible.

I could certainly do without THUNDERBIRDS and HUGO is out of place. Are either HUGO or IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE in 3D?

I assume that LOGAN'S RUN is on DVD unless they got access to that print that played in Ohio and Boston?

How about John Carter and Paranorman, will they be in 3-D?

My answer to all dvd & 3D queries, Probably not, or they would have claimed it on the list.
But how the hell would I know?
They generally do not respond to questions, however, please feel free to ask them on their webpage at films.cwru.edu.
I am sure that they'll give you the same zero answers that they have provided me over the years.
Some of the people who run the show are pretty nice. The webpage is, however, generally a black hole.

Well have fun watching 35mm films. Since it is unlikely that Drexel will be digital only.

The Surprises were:
The Postman (not a good choice-particularly not for more than two hours worth)
The Land Before Time (Yuch, patooie, argh, Why oh why - for oh so many reasons)
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. Great film, particularly for a marathon audience. It tries a little too hard, but the tongue in cheek humor generally hit the mark. They showed it not that many years ago, so it wasn't prime - but still an okay surprise.
& An actual wedding, presided over by a great guy wearing as part of his regalia, an excellent Tom Baker scarf. He seemed to be ordained by the Church of the SubGenius. The couple were charmiing, their pledges & the charge from the minister creative, and the audience loved it.

More to say. May do so later.

Audience size & enthusiasm again seemed to have dropped, but it was still better overall than the last couple of years.
Joe Neff & David Z. (Vitruv. Zk.) were each there, so I hope that they will also comment.

Joe and I were indeed in attendance, and I have to say that the biggest disappointment of all was the overwhelming amount of video. We left before having to sit through LOST SKELETON again, but of the 11 films to that point, fully 7 were shown on video.

The four 35mm prints were JOHN CARTER, SOLARIS, HUGO, and LOST SKELETON. I don't know if there were any more after that, but we figured both IRON SKY and WATCHMEN were video.

I will say, the prints of SOLARIS and HUGO were absolutely pristine. And frankly, I absolutely loved HUGO ... I think it's legitimately the best work that Scorsese has done in two decades.

But honestly, if you're going to show a third of your movies on video, do you really need to subject us to THE POSTMAN? And if you're already showing THUNDERBIRDS and PARANORMAN, did you really need to show THE LAND BEFORE TIME as well?

Weak sauce, folks ... weak sauce.
