I know this has been done to death over at the Drexel forum, but I figured ah, what the heck.

Well, this year's marathon looks to be superb so far, as always Bruce, you are the man! 8)

But just for the sake of curiosity and disscussion......

Here's a lineup that I would like to see...

GOJIRA(the original uncut japanese version)
DIE MONSTER DIE!(starring Boris karloff and Nick Adams)
CASSHERN(I love this film! Can't say enough good things about it!)
THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN
YOR, THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE(we need atleast one stinker to have fun with. This one has cavemen, dinosaurs, mummies, robots and a bad comic book reject super villain too!)
CALTIKI: THE IMMORTAL MONSTER(very rare, kinda like a Mexican version of the Blob)
SPRIGGAN(cool anime movie)
V FOR VENDETTA(we usually have a reletively recent film show up at the thon, this one gets my vote)
THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT(Hammer studios first foray into science fiction)
UNDEAD(space aliens and zombies in Austraila, has to be seen to be believed)

Also, if you'll notice, not a single one of these have ever played at the marathon before. 8)

As for bonus stuff along with the movies, all of our old favorites like Gravity, Spaceboy and so on. Also the short film, NEGADON, THE MONSTER FROM MARS!

What about the rest of you, what is your ideal lineup :?:

Looks like it would be a great lineup.

However The Incredible Shrinking Man played at SF18.

Whoa! There is somebody else who has heard of this film besides me? My reaction is pretty much the same as yours. And yes I couldn't agree more, it is an amazing film. 8)

Yeah, I bought an import DVD of it on a whim (since it hasn't been released here yet http://www.casshern.com/ ) and really just loved it. :)

A Marathon made just for fun!!!!

MetalStorm in 3-D (A cheesy 80's 3-D film to start the 'thon)

Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure (Excellent Comedy/Sci-fi fun Dude)

Battle Beyond the Stars (Roger Cormans remake of The Dirty Dozen in outer space..in space no one can hear John Boy Scream)

SpaceHunter in 3-D (another fun 3-D film)

Jason X (Perhaps the most underrated Sci-Fi film of all time)

John Carpenter's THE THING (Sci-fi Horror at it's scariest)

Zapped! (Mad scientist Sci-fi comedy 80's style)

Galaxy of Terror (Roger Cormans cheesy Alien Ripoff )

I would love to see Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure at a marathon. Great idea!

And if you remember correctly, Battle Beyond the Stars played (more or less) at the trailerthon. Officially, it was just the trailer, but it was the longest trailer in history. I refuse to believe that there was a moment of that film that we didn't see.

Zapped!
is another classic that is woefully underappreciated. The marathon has been Willie Aames deficient for far too long. Would be a great bookend with Zapped Again!

The concept of an "ideal" marathon for me is kind of a misnomer. My greatest memories from marathons past have been the majority of the time from films I had never seen before. Thusly, on paper I could never put together an ideal marathon. But, just for the sake of argument, here are a collection of films I have seen that would make a great marathon for me.

In my opinion, a memorable marathon contains a variety. This includes a variety of release dates as well as film quality (cheesy vs. "serious"). So here goes in no particular order:

First of all, my favorite science fiction film of all time would have to be included: INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS
At least one Giant Monster movie is required, I'm going with THE MYSTERIANS
For the so awful it's good slot:ROBOT MONSTER.
A classic yes-it's-possible-for-a-movie-made-more-than-70-years-ago-to-be-great film:METROPOLIS
Non-cheesy 50's golden age of science fiction:THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
If somebody were to start one of these things in a different city someday, it would be required for the first year: INFRA-MAN
Cult favorite slot: REPO MAN
Serious modern Sci-Fi classic but not too recent:Carpenter's THING
The lots of things being blown up and shot at film:ALIENS
The is it really sci-fi? mind trip: A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
A movie that perhaps represents everything I love about the marathon, but curiously was not universally enjoyed when it played:THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA
And let's round out the list with a film that has never played at the thon (but certainly not because of a lack of trying), all I have to say is:
RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNN!!!!!!!!!

Uhhh...Tim, don't you mean "A Marathon Made Just for the 80's"?

Alright, since I never posted one of these on the old Forum ... I'll take a stab at it here:

    Things to Come
    The Invisible Ray
    Surprise #1
    Colossus: The Forbin Project
    Bride of the Monster
    Surprise #2
    Heavy Metal
    Logan's Run
    Eliminators
    Outland
    Zardoz
    Pitch Black

What are the Surprises? I have no idea ... that's really the point 8) . Any good Marathon should have at least two films I would probably not see or hear of otherwise.

Hey, I'd buy a ticket ...

OK, I'll bite:

1) Logans Run (76)
2) Colussus: The Forbin Project (70)
3) They Live (88)
4) 12 Monkeys (95)
5) Green Slime (68)
6) Robinson and Crusoe on Mars (64)
7) Day of The Triffids (Only if it is a nice print - last time it was red) (62)
8) 20 Million Miles to Earth (57)
9) Demon Seed (77)
10) Premiere #1
11) Premiere #2
12) Premiere #3

So that's 1 from the 50's - 3 from the 60's - 3 from the 70's - 1 from the 80's - 1 from the 90's - 3 current films.

Okay, so I'll devote two slots to premieres and the rest to the following (in no particular order of preference):

METROPOLIS (RESTORED VERSION)-Wow. Saw this in Boston back at SF28, when it immediately landed on my top ten theater experiences of all time. Breathtaking, visionary, emotionally engaging...the grandaddy of all great science fiction flicks.

2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY-And while I'm thinking of top ten theater experiences, here's another that's on that list. Rag on it if you must for being slow and ponderous, but it's one of the few films that is truly transformed by seeing it on the BIG SCREEN. Religion vs. science vs. philosophy vs. who knows what in a movie that would never get made today. And it has the best killer computer in film history.

INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978)-Don't get me wrong; I love the original version. But to this day I'm still haunted by Donald Sutherland's apocalyptic scream concluding my first Marathon at SF7. The palpable sense of ennui is suffocating and so very real, and there are great perfs all around.

THE APPLE-One of the great Marathon crowd films of all time. If you had fun with this in Columbus, you should've seen the near riotous reaction in Boston two months earlier.

BLADE RUNNER (DIRECTOR'S CUT)-My all time favorite science fiction film and firm holder of a place in my all time top ten films. Stunning production design, creepy and enigmatic performances, a haunting soundtrack, the eternal question of what defines humanity...I get excited just thinking about it.

INFRA-MAN-Because it's INFRA-MAN damnit!!!

DR. STRANGELOVE-This will always hold a special place in my heart. My first viewing was at SF9, the last one at the North (RIP.) One of the greatest, if not the greatest, black comedies of all time and still relevant today. Yes, this makes two Kubricks in one Marathon, but as Jack Nicholson once said "We all knew Stan was the man."

DONNIE DARKO-Quite possibly the only true word of mouth cult hit of the past decade, and a film that reveals more of itself with subsequent viewings.

SECONDS-I remember liking this when I first saw it on video. I next saw it at Boston's SF28 and boy was I creeped out in a major way. A disturbing parable about aging that stays under your skin long after the end, and a great tragic performance by Rock Hudson.

INVASION OF THE BEE GIRLS-In every good Marathon lineup, there must fall some T+A. This ludicrous grindhouse classic more than fits the bill.

THE SECRET ADVENTURES OF TOM THUMB-It's only an hour long, so I'll toss this in as well. It's wondrous and creepy, but mostly it evokes fond memories of watching bizarre things in the middle of the night at the North. There have been good Marathons since the passing of the old girl, but none of them have quite managed to capture the same magic the North had. Granted, that magic might not exist anymore, so it's no knock on Bruce, Jeff and company. (Wait, do I count as a member of "company" now? Uh oh. Better slink back to the Drexel North shrine in my basement and say a rosary...)
