Someone had to start it.

How about :
The American Astronaut (2001)
Absolutely non-genre and perhaps annoyingly odd, it certainly suggests almost no other film. Got nominated for a few prizes. Perhaps Josh Whedon was influenced by it? Here's a description. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_American_Astronaut
And probably not relevant, but I know where there's a 35 mm print.

Why not?
After all, McAbee's other movie went over pretty well a few years ago...

Looks like it is in the same vein. Wonder if we could spin it as a premiere, somehow.

This seems to be a contentious movie among sci-fi fans, but I wouldn't mind seeing Sunshine (2007) on the big screen, and it's never been shown at the marathon before.

I second both Sunshine and Galaxy Quest.

I'd love to see a Richard Matheson tribute of some kind next year. Assuming there is a next year...

I based my American Astronaut recommendation on a rave review/ announcement of a showing at the Cleveland Cinematheque - which I attended this week.
Well - - -I like oddball and particularly appreciate the mix of stuff including independent and non-linear stuff shown at both the Columbus and Boston Marathons.
The person I attended the showing with thought it was hugely creative and particularly brilliant in it's use of black & white photography. & would be a great change of pace at a marathon.
I thought that the casting and specific scenes were unique -in a good way.
But when a film continues in its lengthy creativity to the extent that you are hoping that it will finish soon so that you can get the hell out of the theater, then you probably should not recommend it to others.
I respectfully withdraw my nomination.

Jason X comes to Blu-Ray in September 2013 so it wouldn't need to be a DVD projection!!

Is it THAT bad that you wanted it to "finish soon"? Or, did it just run out of ideas?

It seemed that they ran out of ideas for the final third of the film - or at least interesting ones.
It wasn't surprising, just retreads in the later scenes. You'd gotten used to the writer/Director's warped view of the universe and it became --- slow.
Going to listen to Blues and have a beer became increasingly attractive.
Note: The Blues guy , Steev Inglish was very good.

2 Great Movies are comking to Blu-Ray and both would play well at an upcoming Sci-Fi Marathon:

Fantastic Voyage (Played in 2000) and Voyage to the Bottom of the sea (Never Played)

I'd definitely like to see the latter.

Really? For me they'd be, at best, poor fillers.
Not classics or innovative.
Not well acted.
No significant actors playing leads.
Nothing to recommend them except perhaps mild nostalgia.
Which I don't feel.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would be nostalga for me, which is why I said I would like it. But I know I am a bit of an outlier.
