The Sutherland/Nimoy/Goldbloom version (already listed) is actually a better film. But this one gets its place as the original, taking the pedestrian Finney novel and turning it into the classic creepy "They're out to get you" paranoid 50s (some say) anti-communist fear fest.

Perhaps rated a little high. But along with Paul & Spaceballs, what else is there that treats our beloved genre with the seriousness it deserves?

James Arness as,: “An intellectual carrot. The mind boggles!”.
The second of three 1951 movies in the countdown, it must seem a little less creepy now than when first made, but is still the precursor to all the aliens among us movies.
