I'll definitely give it a shot though I am disappointed SciFi is letting BSG go after next season.

I almost quit watching the latest episode in the middle. I'll keep watching because I love Flash Gordon, but I can't say I agree with the choices the producers have made.

The near breaking point was when Flash fought a doppelganger and Dale had to choose which one to kill. It was so cliché it hurt.

They spend too much time on Earth. In the three or four episodes so far, the only classic characters from Mongo are Ming and Aura. It looks like next week's episode will feature hawkmen, but they seem to be men with capes who only glide.

Part of the fun of Flash Gordon has always been the camp. The Halmi's are taking this way too seriously. I'll probably watch it through to the end, but I think it is likely that the doppelganger fight was when the show jumped the shark.

I agree. I watched the hour and a half long pilot and the two episodes that followed and that was it for me. I agree with your assessment, too much time on Earth, not enough camp … why change the staples that make Flash Gordon, Flash Gordon. Ming has hair? Hawkmen without wings? This show is just not for me. I’ll stick with the 1980 movie.
