If you see one of these P-51 Mustang fighter planes flying over Columbus this weekend, think of Ed Kemmer, aka "Space Patrol"'s Commander Buzz Corry. As a World War II fighter pilot he flew P-51s on 47 missions before being shot down. He then spent the rest of the war in the German POW camp where the real "Great Escape" took place. And he went on to fly the airliner in the original "Twilight Zone's" "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet".
Friendly, gracious, entertaining and generous with his time, Mr. Kemmer was one of my favorite Marathon guests ever. I hope that those of you who took the Space Patrol Oath back in 1994 have been living up to its high standards.
