So, did anyone join my Android Army and make it all the way through the Marathon without dozing off?

Bonus points for those who not only stayed awake, but also stayed in the theater and watched every single movie!

My Guide On How To STAY AWAKE all 24 Hours!

Been going to Marathons since...gulp...1979 and have never fallen asleep!

Tips:

1. GET SOME REST before the Marathon. Easier said than done sometimes, I understand. Particularly, if the Marathon starts at Midnight! But, do your best. Also, I start a Vitamin, Echinesia, Zinc pill-popping regimen the week before the Marathon to be as illness resistant as I can.

2. LIMIT CAFFEINE. One year, early on in my Marathon career, I thought popping No-Doz was a good idea. It wasn't. 3/4 of the way through, I thought I was having an ulcer right smack in the middle of DEMON SEED (that 'demon' was in my stomach!). More importantly, the constant ups and downs eventually catches up to you (same goes for excessive Sugar intake). Some folks have a higher built-up tolerence, but go easy.

3. Wear COMFORTABLE CLOTHES. That Klingon mask and paraphernalia might seem cool at noon, but by midnight, it likely won't. Also, a pillow or neck/back support might be in order.

4. EAT as LITTLE as possible. Again, early on, I looked forward to the Marathon as a 24 hour junk food party. Over the years, I have seen many many Marathoners "go down for the count" long before the finish line due to upset stomachs. Pizza, burritos, Chinese, Indian, Thai food are all favorites, but I would stay away from them. I eat a big breakfast. Then nibble, nibble, nibble all day and night with only 1 warm meal (usually just a chicken sandwich without fries, shakes or too many condiments). Maybe , something warm for breakfast. Otherwise, it's prezels, chocolate covered raisins, several Power/Energy bars and lots and lots of water. Boring? Yup, but this is SURVIVAL!!

5. GET UP AND MOVE AROUND!! I pop out of my seat after EVERY SINGLE MOVIE and move around. If you think to yourself, "Oh, I'll just grab a little 5 minute nap between movies" - you're likely a goner. That walk around will do you much more good than a 5 minute nap. Longer naps are another story (for wimps!), but this is about staying awake the whole 24.

6. PSYCH YOURSELF UP!! Come on, this is one (long) day a year! ONE! You can't get psychologically get yourself tuned up to stay awake one little night a year?! Think of all the cool movies and shorts you are going to see! All the bad puns and callbacks you'll hear! The fun you have reminicing with fellow Marathoners throughout the year! The pride and honor of being a 24 HOUR SURVIVOR! You CAN do it!!

That's it. 6 simple rules to follow, and you can join the Android brigade like myself! You'll never miss a single ray gun shooting, alien attack, day for night scene, cheezy line of dialogue, CGI overloaded frame, vintage trailer or Bruce quip again!!

Anyone who made it through this marathon with The Andromeda Strain, 1984, A Clockwork Orange, and Stranger From Venus, not to mention the surprisingly dull Big Man Japan without so much as nodding off should get the coveted Gort Award.

It would have been challenging even for you, Mr. LAConnection.

Oh, no! We've had (sadly) much much worse in Boston, and this 'droid has never faltered.

Heck, just this February we had the middle of the night/wee hours stretch that included the slow as FROZEN molasses (but classic) 2001, 1984, JOURNEY TO 7TH PLANET and SOUND OF THUNDER! 2001 killed off at least 1/3 of the Boston Audience and, by the time we got to the 1984 & 7th PLANET Double bill, 2/3 were down and out - but not yours truly! And, we had an extra 12th film than in Ohio (anyone for the not-so-inspiring LAST MIMZY? Thought not...)!

I did a couple head snaps during 1984 and one during Big Man Japan, but did not truly fall asleep. I also syaed for all the movies. My friends went to dinner during the costume contest, so not only did they miss the Ro-Man vs. Mothra battle they missed the Indy trailer, which they were not happy about. Neither was the guy in front of us who also was away during the trailer.

Thanks for reminding me about the awesome costume contest this year. We had real entries! And an exciting and enthusiastic resolution!

But to assure that it is more competitive next year so we don't end in a tie, how about whoever wins gets homefield advantage in the playoffs.

I slept less this year. Seems like everytime I woke up during 1984 they were naked. And Big Man Japan everytime I woke up there were really colorful people beating on a big red guy.

I thought I would sleep through Pitch Black, because it was the only one that I had seen before. WIDE AWAKE the whole movie, and what a great movie that was. Might be my favorite for 2008.

I think I fell asleep at the end of Stranger from Venus and I wished I hadn't it was looking pretty good.

Also loved Andromeda Strain this year.

I closed my eyes for about 10 minutes during Stranger. Other than that I was awake for every minute of all of the rest of the films.

I stayed for all movies (always do) and only nodded off during andromeda and 1984. This is my best record of staying awake so far.

It was a rough year for me in terms of staying awake. I started nodding during Andromeda Strain, and then really struggled with 1984. I was awake again during Pitch Black, but Stranger from Venus just about killed me.

I've made it all 24 hours in years past, but this year it just wasn't going to happen. Of course, due to a young child and a busy schedule, I also went to bed around 1:00 a.m. on Friday night, woke up once for about 15 minutes to soothe a crying infant, and then was up to head out to the 'thon at 5:00 a.m. So I went in to the 'thon with a handicap.
