Hello, all. I just got back from X-Men: The Last Stand and let me just say I was totally blown away. I did not expect to like this film. I wasn't sure if the unremarkable Brett Ratner would be able to handle the follow up to two great superhero films. Well, let's just say that his adequate direction did not stand in the way of the sheer entertainment value of the film.
I shall post no spoilers in this thread, but let me just say I was totally unprepared for the sheer amount of carnage spewed forth by this movie. No mutant is safe and that is clear very early on. I don't know how longtime fans of the comic and the preceding films will feel about what goes on. I must say, the events that transpired hit me on an emotional level that I was not expecting.
Anyways, aside from all that, the effects are mostly great and the pacing is excellent. I think the rich appeal of the X-Men has always been that things are not always black and white. It was never about "Xavier good, Magneto bad" and even more so with this worthy "final" (I'll beleive that when I see it) chapter.
I encourage anyone who has not seen this yet to not learn too much about the plot beforehand. Also, stay until after the credits for a very relevant coda.
