District 9, one of the best films of this year, science fiction or otherwise, is available for preorder on Blu-Ray at BestBuy.com for $17.99. I am new to this whole Blu-Ray thing, but I think we can all agree that $17.99 is a stellar price for a brand new movie in that format. I wanted to give you guys a heads up because that price may not be the in-store ad price next Tuesday.

I don't know if this happens often or if it is just a weird holiday thing. I noticed the Inglourious Basterds Blu-Ray was $17.99 this week while browsing the internet. But Tuesday when I stopped by the store it was selling for $22.99. I didn't buy it and when I got home it was still listed as $17.99. I bought it online and chose the "in-store pickup" option. Viola, I saved 5 bucks (actually 12 bucks off MSRP). You can bet I'll be checking out this method in the future to see if it is not just a fluke.

My copy of District 9 is already paid for and will be available for me to pickup Tuesday, something I would have done anyway.

Incidentally, I would rank the robot in that movie as one of the top 5 robots of all time. If they were making a list, I would put it right up near the top alongside R2D2, Gort, Ash, and Robby. The only thing is, I don't think it ever got named. They would just have to list it as "that one from District 9"

Still need to see that one. Just don't have the time for movies I used to have.

Am I the only one that was disappointed by District 9? It felt unbalanced to me; the good ideas they had at the beginning were squandered by the end as it turned into a standard mindless action movie hunt for the MacGuffin.

No, there were others who share your concerns. I agree with you that it turned into an action movie, but I strongly disagree that it was "standard" or "mindless."

You're not the only one ... it's got some pacing issues and some galloping-elephant plot holes that kinda weigh it down a bit.

But still, overall I think it's a very well executed film, very engaging, and the story is pretty enjoyable. It's also a very nice, very realistic set of effects, and things blow up REAL good.

Definitely worth of a theater viewing, and I think it would make a great Marathon film (for those who missed it on the big screen.)
