There have been lots of conversations about the marathon and some have them have not been to friendly but I think we are all missing the main question that everyone should be asking...

In 2001 they showed "2001"
In 2010 thye are showing "2010"

So in 2012 will they show "2012"?

We'll only have until December 21, 2012 to see it. Might be our last chance :-)

There was no marathon in 2001, but I'm sure it would have played.

EDIT:Sorry for crapping on your point, I forgot the first rule of comedy is "don't deny." :)

Since the Mayan calendar doesn't end until December, I propose we actually play 2012 in 2013, and then go with a "We Survived the Apocalypse" theme, with movies like A Boy and His Dog, Mad Max, and Doomsday.

Excellent idea, IAJUID! Play it in 2013 just to rub it in 2012's face!

I like this idea, let's run with it.

2013 will also presumably be the "30th Annual" Ohio Science Fiction Marathon (though in name only). In the spirit of the "survival" theme, let's tack on another 3 or 4 films and make it a 30 hour marathon extravaganza!

Isn't it that the normal runtime of the Sci Fi Thon anyways? Or it just feels like I'm in the Drexel for 30 hours.

I remember being there with something in the screen for 26 hours in 2008, so 30 isn't too much of a stretch.

I also like the 2013 we survived the end of the world theme. I wonder if it might also have a time travel theme and we end up at the 43rd annual Sci Fi Marathon. Or we go back to one of those we currently do not remember.

I always thought that would be fun, if Bruce recreated a past marathon showing all the same films in the same order.

You'd have to go pretty far back for it not to feel a little lame in terms of line-up. And I can only imagine how difficult it would be to arrange in terms of booking.

But I think the experience would end up lacking. Because the marathon is more than the films that are shown. Are they one of the most important parts, absolutely. But the marathon is also the guests, the contests, the shorts, the trailers, the conversations in line, the random freak weather outbreaks (anyone else remember the late-April Fool's Day blizzard from SF 15?), etc.

Trying to recreate one of the old marathons wouldn't feel right, I don't think.

I think what Dennis was getting at is not to repeat a marathon, but to revisit the numbered marathons that don't exist because of the "time warp." Currently, those are 13,14,16 and 22.

Exactly. Bruce always says those happened, we just don't remember them.

I would have to say, though. I wouldn't mind. for a major anniversary redoing the films from SF1, assuming print availability and making sure none of the films played in the previous four or five marathons. It would take a lot of long term planning that I am not sure is possible given the Angry Marthon Hating Print Availability God.

I doubt too many folks would complain if 2-3 films had to be switched out and were replaced with premieres.
