Anyone else see the news that the Original Trilogy, in non-special edition format, is going to be released to DVD this fall?

No, but that is great news. I always wondered if they might do it, since there is good money to be made. I wondered if Lucas's "vision" would get in the way of making more money. :)

I have also put off buying the DVDs in general since I figure at some point there will be a 6 film box set. I thought that might happen Christmas 2006, but with this information, maybe 2007 as some kind of 30th anniversary special edition.

To be perfectly honest, I giggled with joy this morning when I read the news. My only nitpick is I wish they had added the 5.1 mix to this disc that was on the special editions. You can't tell me that Lucasfilm doesn't have the capacity nor the time to do it.

Well you can color me disappointed this moring. The recent news is that the upcoming releases of the theatrical versions of the original "Star Wars" trilogy will not have anamorphic transfers. I really shouldn't be surprised by this move considering Lucas' wierd claims that no one is interested in the films in their original form. *sigh*
