Well, I'm obviously not only late for the party but hanging out long after desert was served and the best wine put when it comes to Splice, which I finally watched tonight. I'm generally with Jim (MEATFETISH) on this one's Cronenbergian influences. And yeah, there are some weak spots. But I thoroughly enjoyed this as a refreshing exercise in dramatic sci-fi/horror. I'm a sucker for any Sarah Polley project, so you had me sold right there. The creature effects are very well done, and I really empathized with the plight of Dren, a seeming superbeing brought into the world by two unprepared parents. I'm guessing that Tim also didn't enjoy that chick flick Frankenstein, with its semi-pathetic and childlike monster who's just looking for love and acceptance.
And speaking of which, did anyone catch the James Whale love in the main characters' names (Elsa as in Lanchester and Clive as in Colin)?
