The Ohio Sci-Fi and Horror Marathons

It's funny how most of the time, the "event" films we are most anxiously looking forward to tend to fall flat or not live up to expectations *cough cough* MOS *cough cough*
And it's also funny how something you are expecting not to like or are lukewarm on can sneak up on you.

That being said, I thought World War Z was GREAT!

Several memorable set pieces tied together with exquisite sound design and score made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening that I was absolutely NOT expecting. Yes, it could have greatly benefitted from an R rating, especially towards the end when a cutaway from a specific potential gore gag made it slightly confusing as to what was actually happening. But the "PG-13-ifying" of it all didn't bump me as much as other times and I can totally understand why they did it this way. I can also see how Zombie "purists" or readers of the book may not take a liking to the movie, but I am neither of those so it's all good from my perspective.

This does, however, once again strongly enforce my desire to avoid trailers as much as I can. It is truly frustrating how relentlessly spoilery Hollywood has become in their advertising, and this would have been an even more amazing moviegoing experience had I not seen a good number of money shots beforehand.
Sigh... I sound like a broken record sometimes.

Anyways, go see it, if you haven't already.

World War Z is more like World War Zzz..... Man of Steel was a better movie. WWZ did not follow the book at all.

I enjoyed it. It's nothing great, but, decent B-movie fun - albeit, a B-movie that cost $250M! The script owes more than a bit to I AM LEGEND by the recently departed Richard Matheson. I liked that the PG-13 kept it low key and intense, emphasizing suspense and character over show-stopping effects showcases, the Israel sequence notwithstanding.
