The Ohio Sci-Fi and Horror Marathons

Hi Everyone,

My name is John: I'm the guy who had a diabetic seizure on Sunday morning during the marathon. I just wanted to apologize for interrupting everyone's enjoyment of the marathon and thank those who helped me through the attack.

If it weren't for kind people like you I would be in a much worse place right now. Adam Einhorn and Katie Chio (two long-time marathon devotees and personal friends of mine) informed me the following day that people who had some rudimentary medical training helped to get me onto my side and helped to escort me outside where an ambulance was called. Unfortunately I was blacked out during the affair, and so had no idea what transpired.

Words cannot express how thankful I am for those who gave me their assistance. I love Columbus for many reasons, but primarily I love the sense of community we share. I would like to thank everyone involved with organizing the Marathon, because they are the reason that such a selfless community has been fostered to the extent that they help a stranger. Please be assured that such attacks will not happen again in future Marathons. I am already taking measures to adjust my insulin levels through the supervision of my doctor. Again, I my deepest gratitude goes out to those whose movie I interrupted. I hope to see you all this Spring for the Sci-Fi Marathon where I can thank you in person.

Glad to hear you are doing better. I, along with several others, was quite concerned when it became apparent that someone among us was in distress. We were glad to hear you were well-attended to and got the prompt medical attention needed, but it is good to hear from you personally and know you are doing okay. Even the people I don't know at the marathons--like you--have come to feel like a sort of family, as Joe has said before. And I know from experience with relatives & friends that diabetes can be a serious matter. So don't be concerned about "disrupting" anything. The health, safety, and well-being of the attendees is paramount to everyone! I mean, what would we do without each other?
Glad you are okay and hope to see you around the next 'thon!

This is Adam, I was attending with my wife Katie. We just wanted to also voice my appreciation to the people who came to John's aid. We were very lucky to have two paramedics, Ryan and Josh present at the marathon whose quick reaction to the situation was incredibly appreciated.

Also, thanks to the event organizers and Drexel staff who also helped immensely. They were very sincere and professional, beyond just organizing an amazing event.

It did thankfully make the whole thing less terrifying to know that we had support from people who had experience and willingness to help out at the early hours of the morning.

One thing, though - I don't know if it's possible to move this post to the appropriate board... The Graveyard. You might PM the mods (vitruvianzeke or Joe Neff) to see if they can move it for you. It'd probably get a lot more views over there (and by people that attended the Horror marathon) - people are probably not checking the Cantina (scifi forums) yet, since news regarding the scifi marathon is not expected this early.
