Soooooo, how you been?

Life good? Good to hear.

What are all the movies in this year's marathon and what order are they playing in and what does the shirt look like and why aren't you showing a slasher movie and why do you like Argento so much and do you think Slither will get bounced from the lineup due to time once again?

Everything else good? Lovely.

Thanks.

You forgot to accuse us of playing too many (ahem) "mainstream" titles, while simultaneously dogging us for booking all this arty crap.

And we're getting to the point where we ALL know subconsciously that SLITHER has already been booked and cancelled three times by now!

Well, as long as you pick the 12 movies I want to see, you're gold.

Oh Gawd!

Here's hoping that Jason X (i know it was played at SF33) will be added to the list!

As Not Worldsfinest (again, no relation) said...lineup, tees, order, Slither/No Slither, No torture porn, Argento/No Argento, news is commanded...stat!

We've been having quite the spirited discussion about repeats at the Horror Marathon over at the official Marathon Facebook page. Join in if you'd like, or post your comments here. My original post is below:

Okay, so here's an interesting question for all of you (or maybe some of you) about a topic that often bedevils us in programming: repeats! Throughout the 30+ years of Science Fiction and Horror Marathons, we've had a few titles that have played two or more times (like SUSPIRIA, pictured here, which played in 1988, 1999, and 2013.) We try to space repeats out, although there have been some special cases in the past (FORBIDDEN PLANET played three times in the first ten years of Sci-Fi Marathons).

When an event lasts for this long, there's bound to be an evolution of the audience, and in what they may or may not have seen. Case in point: when we bookended SF32 with ALIEN and ALIENS, a few of the veterans complained about seeing them again. But we hadn't played either in 20 years, and we ended up having more Marathoids stay until the end than we'd had in years. Plus, a good chunk of relatively new attendees thought it was cool to finally see them on the BIG SCREEN.

Such programming can often be a tricky balance. We aren't looking to merely rehash the past, but we also know the value of films that have played well before. So to you, the relatively new Marathoids (say 5 events or less), we ask: which seemingly classic films which we've played before would you like to see again? And veterans, are there titles you've seen at past Marathons which should be resurrected? For the purposes of this discussion, let's stick to the upcoming Horror Marathon. And for reference's sake, here's a link to our pal Dave Zecchini's indispensable Marathon history archive, which contains a comprehensive listing of all the titles that we've unspooled since 1988: http://www.vitruvianzeke.com/Marathonia/Marathonia.html

This is off-topic, but I just want to say thank you for always making sure info that's posted on Facebook eventually makes its way here or to other outlets. I deactivated my FB account because I was applying to a new job, and also cause I just don't like Facebook, and I doubt I'm the only one, so it's good to know we're not missing anything.

Loyal marathoid since the 1st Incredible 2 Headed outing. Not sure if I see anything since then worth resurrecting yet. Maybe something like Cannibal Holocaust which will always be a curiosity for some. I also will always have a soft spot for Gozu though I can't imagine it would be a draw for many. Saw could be one too. I got burned out on those movies but it is old enough now that it may be a nostalgia pick for young people out there now. I now feel old. I remember From Dusk til Dawn playing really well.

I think there have only been two repeats since I have been going -- The Shining and Demons. Both good choices.

Looking at some lineups from before my time, I would think Evil Dead 2 would always be welcome. I still haven't seen Dog Soldiers but by many accounts it sounds like that played well. Still guessing it is an underseen/under appreciated movie. Personal preference pick: Carnival of Souls (I think Criterion is about to drop an upgrade so maybe there is a quality DCP out there). Halloween seems like another evergreen. Creepshow. Re-Animator. Cemetery Man. Dr Butcher MD. Cronos. The Hunger. The Howling.

(Edit: and I realize I violated the question by going on to suggest movies that I myself have not experienced at a marathon).

Never been a fan of Carnival of Souls but would be up for a repeat showing of any of these:

    Halloween
    Creepshow
    Re-Animator
    Cemetery Man
    Dr Butcher MD
    The Hunger
    The Howling

So I'm seeing several people on the FB page asking for a repeat of DR. BUTCHER M.D., and I'm thinking "waitaminit, we've never played that!" And then I remember that in assembling his Marathon history page, Dave Zecchini tweaked me by including the three 24+ hour video Marathons I ran in my sister's basement from 1995-1997. During which I once screened that film! But to be clear, it's never shown at a Marathon that people....ya know....paid for. Or were publicly invited to.

IMPOSSIBLE. I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER BEING THERE!!!

Or maybe I grossly misread the archive.

It's one of those two things.
