One thing that I think Bruce and Joe don't get enough credit for is how they schedule marathons. Not everything always works out as intended and surely that [i]one[i] movie you were dying to see gets the 4am slot and you sleep through it. But on balance I think they've done a great job. The Music Box in Chicago just announced their full line up and schedule for next week and I honestly think it's the worst scheduled marathon I've ever seen in my almost 30 years marathons and I just wanted to get some other opinions. I mean, maybe they just want the theater to clear out by 4am... But what do you think? Noon Seven Footprints to Satan (New DCP Restoration) (1929) w/live score by organist Dennis Scott 1:30pm Zombie Holocaust (Dr. Butcher M.D.) (1980, 35MM) 3:15pm Torso (1973, 35MM) 5:30pm Raw Meat (35MM Director's Cut) (1972) w/Director Gary Sherman 7:45pm Street Trash (1987, 35MM) w/Director Jim Muro 10:15pm Another Evil - New Film! (DCP) 12:15am Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003, 35MM) 2:10am Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982, Archival 16MM Print) 4:00am Eyes of Fire (1983, 35MM) 6:20am Eye of the Cat (1969, 35MM) 8:20am Popcorn (1991, 35MM) 10:30am Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948, 35MM) https://musicboxtheatre.com/events/musi ... rrors-2016 |

8 views and not a single opinion. Maybe I'm just nuts and this is perfect scheduling. At least I can leave mo later than 4am. Nut probably after Halloween 3 |

It's a bit of an odd duck, to be sure. Don't know if they booked the lineup bit by bit with a grand scheduling vision in mind, or if this is just how the chips fell. There's always been a debate about whether the middle of the night is a time to schedule films that people can sleep through, or if it's when there should be titles that will motivate the audience to stay awake. I tend to skew toward the latter. From an outsider's perspective, DR. BUTCHER, TORSO, and JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 seem like much better films to play later, as they all have the grisly stuff that would keep many awake. Scheduling the two films that are billed as lost cult items seems a bit counterintuitive. And ABBOTT AND COSTELLO last? That's a perfect early afternoon film to ease people into the event. Hmmmm..... |

Thanks Joe. I was hoping for other opinions too but it seems like the board is dead. Anyway, I'd schedule it like this: Seven Footprints of Satan Popcorn Abbot & Costello Raw Meat Street Trash Another Evil Dr. Butcher MD Torso Halloween 3 Eyes of Fire Eye of the Cat Jeepers Creepers 2 Actually, I'd never book something like Jeepers Creepers 2 when there are so many better and/or obscure movies. But since it's there, I'd put it last so fans can stay and old fogies like me would be able to leave. |
