This has been done to death with the Sci-fi marathon so I figured what the heck?

Choose 6 films.

Here are mine...

Dawn of the Dead 78'
John Carpenter's The Thing
Werewolf(feature length TV series pilot)
Alien
Prophecy
Dawn of the Dead 04'

I like the fact that you apparently appreciate the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake. I know a lot of fans are quick to dismiss it because of the source material being so precious, but it is a good horror film on it's own merit.

On to your challenge: If this is essentially a "dream" lineup, it's difficult to pick just 6 films. ALIEN and THE THING are solid choices but I personally consider them Science Fiction with horror elements, so for the purpose of this exercise, I am only considering strict horror films with no crossover potential.

PSYCHO
THE SHINING
THE EXORCIST
DEAD ALIVE
EVIL DEAD II
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

^Excellent lineup. 8)

And yeah, you do have a point, I was operating under the normal standards of what the horror marathon usually is, seeing how it doesn't run as long as the Sci-fi marathon. I too had a difficult time narrowing it down, so I will modify what I previously said, if you want to list 12 films go right on ahead.

And with that in mind...

Dawn of the Dead 78'
John Carpenter's The Thing
Werewolf(feature length TV series pilot)
Alien
Prophecy
The Shining
The Exorcist
The Fog(original)
An American Werewolf In London
28 Weeks Later
Fright Night
Dawn of the Dead 04'

Some Great choices so far, my lineup would be:

My Bloody Valentine (The Slasher Flick)
Ghost and Mr. Chicken (The Comedy of horrors)
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (The Zombie Flick)
Humanoids from the Deep (The T&A)
The Amityville Horror 1979 (The Ghosts)
Battle Royale (The foreign film)

Admittedly, I'm fickle on Horror (so ask me again in a few days and I'll have a totally different list) but my solid six+one ...

The Abominable Dr. Phibes
An American Werewolf in London
Incubus
The Shining
Lord of Illusions
Re-Animator
Phantasm

Perhaps a few off-speed pitches thrown here and there ... "So I Married an Axe Murderer", "Vampyros Lesbos", "Brotherhood of the Wolf", "The Fearless Vampire Killers".

Battle Royale
Blair Witch Project
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things
Dawn of the Dead 04'
Dawn of the Dead 78'
DEAD ALIVE
EVIL DEAD II
Exorcist
Fido
Fright Night
Ghost and Mr. Chicken
Halloween (1978)
Humanoids from the Deep
Incubus
John Carpenter's The Fog
John Carpenter's The Thing
Lord of Illusions
My Bloody Valentine
Phantasm
Piranha (1978)
Prophecy
PSYCHO
Pumpkinhead
Re-Animator
The Abominable Dr. Phibes
The Amityville Horror 1979
THE EXORCIST (2)
The Monster Squad
THE SHINING (3)
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
Werewolf(feature length TV series pilot)

I am surprised to see THE SHINNING on here (3) times considering it just showed 2 years ago, also MECHA74 when you say "Prophecy" do you mean the 1979 movie with Talia Shire or the 1995 movie with Christopher Walken?

okay, here's some votes:

My Bloody Valentine
April Fool's Day
Piranha II: The Spawning
Lord of Illusions
Battle Royale

- Love the first two.
- Piranha 2 has enough laughs (intentional or unintentional) to keep it entertaining.
- Lord of Illusions is a cool flick that some people haven't seen. Pretty intense at times.
- Is Battle Royale even an option? Probably not a real candidate, but I sure wouldn't vote against it.

I see a lot of votes for stuff we've all seen a thousand times before (Shining, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Exorcist, American Werewolf in London, etc). Those are cool, but I feel like we can see those anytime. I'd rather see some lesser-known stuff. I understand that it always helps to have a famous movie to draw casual fans in, and thats fine. I'd prefer that we get just one big-name flick though. (The Thing is always a fine choice in my book.)

I think the reason for this is these are our "ideal" lineups and not necessarily suggestions for this year.

Yes, I am referring to the 1979 film with the jiggly rubbery overcaffenated bear.

Both are fun films but I would rather see the jiggly rubbery overcaffenated bear also

See ... fickle.

I can't believe I created a list and didn't include ...

A Chinese Ghost Story
The Wicker Man (1973)
Brotherhood of the Wolf

And, of course ... who can forget such lovely MST3K classics like ...

The Final Sacrifice
Hobgoblins
Touch of Satan

I mean, the list just won't get any shorter :)

I would fly in for this marathon:

1) Mother of Tears (Dario Argento)
2) Diary of the Dead (George Romero)
3) Stuck (Stuart Gordon)
4) From Beyond dir cut -1986
5) Nightmare in a Damaged Brain - 1981
6) Twitch of the Deathnerve - 1972

OK...so three premieres is highly unlikely, but I would have to fly in for that one if it happened. This obviously is my "ideal" marathon for this year only.

Here's to dreaming!
