For those interested here are a couple of other horror marathons: 24 hour Music Box Massacre (Chicago) Oct 13-14 http://www.musicboxtheatre.com/ - Not much of site, but lists the films Exhumed Films 24 hour marathon (Philadelphia) Oct 27-28 http://hkfilmnews.blogspot.com/2007/09/ ... rs-of.html - No list of films because every film will be kept secret 12 hour Zombie Fest (Boston) Oct 6 http://scifi.vintagelinux.com/node/6 - Has a forum Columbus is Oct 20th. If you had the time and money, you could make a horror marathon EVERY weekend in the month of October! Los Angeles may have one as well, but there is no information yet. I will post when or if more is available. |

Wow,Carter! I was just about ready to list those on here and you beat me to it. There's a also a few others like the Drive In Monstermania in Vandergrift,PA which may be plagued by storms and bad weather at this moment and the horror marathon at The Castro Theatre in San Fran plus a couple others so horror fans have plenty to choose from in the upcoming weeks if travel is waiting. |

I wish I could join my fellow marathoids this October, but as I have said before, I can only afford one trip to Ohio per year. Here is where I will be that weekend: http://www.horrorscifi.com/index.html Not a marathon per se, but with a VIP pass, I'll be able to take in over 24 hours worth of horror and sci-fi goodness. Lots of cool guests here this year. I am so looking forward to the awesome Friday night triple feature of The Terminator, Dawn of the Dead and The Warriors. |

Another event in LA...although it's not a marathon....more of a festival type of thing. It's not even officially announced, but I heard it from an insider. I got my connections, baby! At the Silent movie theater in Hollywood: Thursday Oct 25th: HELL'S BELLS--an amazing christian doc about the satanic roots of Heavy Metal, followed by Alice Cooper's WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE. Every Thursday will be music night! Fri, the 26th: POSESSION, by Zulawski. The greatest art horror film I've ever seen. We will be showing 2 versions. 1) A digital projection of the uncut version that played at Cannes (And Isabelle Adjani won best actress for). 2) The cut, insanely bowdlerized American remix, complete with added solarization. Very rare and on 35mm. Sat, the 27th: Roky Eriksson presents his favorite horror movie, CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN. He liked it so much he wrote a song about it! Then, we begin our festival of three's (cause the third is the most insane of any franchise), with HALLOWEEN 3. Sun. afternoon, the 28th: To inaugurate our Noir Sunday afternoons, NIGHTMARE ALLEY, the one where our hero is reduced to being a circus geek biting the heads off of chickens by the end. Sun. night, the 28th: We launch our Asian night with ONIBABA, one of the greatest Japanese horror movies of the 60's, followed up by HAUSU, an incredibly visually mindblowing '78 film about Japanese schoolgirls in a haunted hosue. Mon. Night: Creature double-feature. PUMPKINHEAD & RAWHEAD REX. Tues. Night: Homo Phobia, two gay subtexted horror movies. NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2 & JEEPERS CREEPERS. AND FINALLY Wed. Night: Silent night begins with HAXAN aka WITCHCRAFT THROUGH THE AGES, the criterion released Danish masterpiece by Benjamin Christensen that is a litany of middle-age perversion and satanism, beautifully shot. AND when the movies over...A HALLOWEEN PARTY AT THE SPOOKY SILENT MOVIE THEATRE. More on that later. |

I still have my print of ALICE COOPER'S Welcome to my Nightmare I showed at the Pickerington NIGHTMARATHON I must say the kids did not like it much but that was in the era of Grunge and Metal is making a comeback. I would love to see HALLOWEEN 3 on the Big Screen, it's actually a good movie, fans of HALLOWEEN don't like it because it didn't have Michael Myers in it. |

The San Francisco SHOCK IT TO ME horror festival: http://www.shock-it-to-me.com/ I probably won't go because it isn't a marathon. I would rather see all of the films in one sitting than have to see them spread out over days...or even weeks. Long live the MARATHON! Death to the FESTIVAL! |

I agree that a marathon is a truly unique experience that is unmatched, but "festivals" attract more special guests and advertising. I have been fortunate enough to be able to afford revisiting my home state the past six springs for Bruce's hope-it-never-stops Sci-Fi marathon goodness. But if a "festival" is all I can get in the fall out here, I am taking it. It can be kind of like a marathon for me, just with a couple of 8 hour breaks. Joe has snagged a few great titles so far, I wish I could come. |

I was thinking about going to SHOCK IT TO ME, but the fact that it is spread out over days has deterred me. It's a 6 hour drive to SF and I can't really spend days there (work). If it were a marathon I would drive up in a second. Well...actually I would make the decision in a second and spend 5 or 6 hours driving. At least I get the American Cinemateque marathon, which isn't that bad. |
