RKO Pictures has launched Roseblood Movie Co., a subsidiary that will remake eight classic horror films RKO churned out in the 1940s reports Variety.

Three of the projects have a writer - "Lady Scarface" by Tom Puryear, "While the City Sleeps" by Shin Shimosawa and Jim Morris, and "The Monkey's Paw" by Todd Farmer. Other films include "Bedlam," "Body Snatcher," "Five Came Back," "The Seventh Victim" and "I Walked With a Zombie."

RKO signed an interim agreement with the Writer's Guild earlier this week, allowing them to progress through the strike.

Be interesting to see how they "update" some of these.

They already remade I Walked With a Zombie as "Ritual", aka "Tales From the Crypt: Ritual" which went straight to DVD after sitting on the shelf for a couple of years. The word I would use to describe it would be "misguided" and that's being kind. If that's any indication of how they intend to modernize these films, then this is nothing to look forward to.

I never thought I Walked With a Zombie was that great of a movie to begin. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't awful, but it is something I might fall asleep on if it was on at 2 am on TCM.

Remakes are such tricky things and so rarely are better than the original. Though, it is a matter of what you saw first. For example, my nephew, as I've mentioned before, much preferred the Peter Jakson King Kong, because to him that is the original King Kong. His upbringing, unlike mine, lacked Superhost and Night Owl Theater so he did not get a good grounding in the classics.

Has anyone seen the trailer for the "remake" of PROM NIGHT? It looks horrible, the story is NOTHING like the original and the produceres didn't make the nads to put the killer in a school the movie takes place in a hotel...what a joke.

But if they put it in a school there will be a copycat and it will be the filmmakers fault. Just like I blame Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for my regualr desire to be drug behind speeding trucks on desert roads.

And don't even get me started on the number of times I have run off cliffs and then looked down.
