There's some exceedingly good news for horror fans. Sam Raimi's classic Army of Darkness, the capper to the Evil Dead trilogy will be released on Blu-ray this September 15th. A pretty good price, too - just $29.98.

The standard version DVD of the "Screwhead Edition" will run you twenty bones, well worth it for Bruce Campbell at his Campbellest. As with a lot of older films - and this now qualifies for that because it's from the pre-DVD era - we won't get a ton of additional features simply because nobody thought to create them back then, although there are some, like a look at how Raimi and his effects team created the Deadites and an alternate ending.

From DVD Active:

"All primitive screwheads, listen up! Cult superstar Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) reunites with director Sam Raimi (Drag Me to Hell, Spider-Man) to battle the deadly forces of evil in Army of Darkness - the outrageous, effects-fueled action epic that will make you scream with fear and laughter. Forced to lead a makeshift Dark Ages army against the demonic Deadites, who possess all the deadly magic of hell, the shotgun-toting, chainsaw-armed, reluctant 20th century time traveler Ash (Campbell) must save the living from the dead, rescue his medieval girlfriend and get back to his own time. One of the most popular horror comedies of all time, now digitally remastered and loaded with bonus features, Army of Darkness Screwhead Edition is drop-dead fun!"

I do find a little humorous that they credit Raimi as the director of Drag Me to Hell instead of Evil Dead, but I guess Universal's hoping to move both DVDs at once; Hell is supposed to be available in October, also from Universal Home Entertainment."
