I happened to be reading through Stephen Thrower's book "Nightmare Movies," and noticed the entry for GIRLS NITE OUT (THE SCAREMAKER) listed Kevin Kurgis and Anthony N. Gurvis as both producers and screenwriters.

GIRLS NITE OUT, if you haven't seen it, is a so-so slasher movie where the killer dresses up in a goofy bear costume and stabs people with a "claw" made of steak knives during a scavenger hunt.

Kevin Kurigs, as most of you know, is the local personal injury attorney with the disarming commercials in which he appears to be charging out the TV screen to choke viewers with his giant hands. ("I don't get paid until you get paid") I thought Kurgis' name may have just been a coincidence, until I googled Gurvis and discovered that he, too, is a Columbus attorney. In fact, a check of a public records database shows he's the only Anthony N. Gurvis in the U.S. (that I could find). So I'm now 99% certain that the Kurgis and Gurvis who made GIRLS NITE OUT are our own hometown personal injury attorneys.

Anyone know anything about this? The film was set on a fictional Ohio college campus and starred Ohio native Hal Holbrooke, but was evidently filmed in New Jersey around the same time both Kurgis and Gurvis began practicing law.

I say we get them both to make an appearance for a special screening at the next marathon.

Oh, that's hilarious. Given some of the costume contests at the Sci Fi, I don't know if two personal injury lawyers being anywhere near is a good idea.

What about showing Girls Nite Out at the Marathon this year with special guest, Kevin Kurgis? He could give us insight on what inspired him to create such a masterpiece and how he conjured up such a great idea as a psychopathic murderer in a bear suit. For an added bonus, he could provide personal injury legal consultation because remember he doesn't get paid, unless you get paid! What do you think?

Bumping this thread up for fun as another marathon is being assembled, because really... Girls Nite Out with Kurgis and Gurvis would be great. :)

I am so down with that idea!!

I would think they would love to see the film resurface if only for a night..

Personally, I think this would be fun. On an aside, if I'm not mistaken this movie also stars the woman who played Betty Chiles from Revenge of the Nerds.

Josh, are you going to be selling any movies again this year?

I've always wanted to see Girls Nite Out. Of course, now more than ever.

..and after rewatching the trailer ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n_36BkzcHk ) I'd have to agree that this has ambulance chaser, Kevin Kurgis written all over it.

Oh yea this would rule around 5am to perk people back up...I mean do doesn't enjoy a good ol fashioned Bear with a knife on a killing rampage?

Kurgis had his finger on the pulse of the Horror audience....

Now you know where he got that "choke a bitch out" style of commercials!!!
