Trading Places is on my annual "New Year's Eve" list. I SO want to do an Amtrak rolling NYE party someday.

This sounds great. Let's do this. 24 hours! Include National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Twice a year is not enough!

This was my first year at anything like a horror marathon and I have to say that I enjoyed it immensely. Sure there are things to not like according to taste (one film over another) or according to circumstance (projector problems), but I didn't come to it with expectations of velvet ropes and perfect film stock. Also, I think the Grandview was perfect for this, parking aside.

The line-up was more shlock than I anticipated, and I was devastated to discover late in the game that "Q" was exorcised from the list. It was the one film that made me buy the ticket without hesitation. At the same time, the marathon isn't about watching movies you haven't seen before -any real horror fan has seen at least half that list anyway. It is about seeing them in a way you haven't seen them before, and you can't recreate that experience anywhere except at this marathon.

I enjoyed myself and am now a fan of the marathon. It was fun to be around a group of people who share in my love of horror, even if we love different aspects of the same monster. It's not a scenario I find myself in at any other time in my day to day stroll, and I embraced the experience and its lessons. I hope to be able to entice some friends to accompany me next year, and I would be willing to volunteer in some way to support such an awesome event.

Kudos to all of the people who made it possible!

Reading the reviews of the fest, I guess I'm a bit disappointed at the reaction that DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS apparently received. Showing it in the wee hours probably didn't help.

Considering that VAMPYRES similarly got a poor reception (with several board members terming it one of the worst Marathon films ever), I guess I shouldn't be too shocked. I guess slow Lesbian Eurotrash Vampire films don't go over so well in Ohio. I love both films, but I have to confess that when I first saw DAUGHTERS in Boston at the Orson Welles' inaugural Horror Marathon , my teenage brain didn't appreciate the film either. It was only upon revisiting the film years later on the legendary L.A. Z Channel that I fully 'got' the film.

Perhaps, some of the sleep deprived Ohio Marathon folks can give the film a second shot as well.

I think it was a matter of expectations. The trailers made it look like we'd see more [porn music] action [/porn music] than we did.

scottwoods, are you going to join us in the Spring for the Scifi marathon? Glad you enjoyed yourself. I still like the idea of having Joe commission you to create a horror marathon poem. We could use the culture. It must though have references to the aroma of Fritos.

I don't know, I'm a pretty big fan of Vampyros Lesbos and I think that pretty much falls squarely into that category. :)
