"Irreversible" is absolutely not a horror film. It is certainly horrific. No one who was looking for a thriller would search for this film in the horror section in any store.

That said, I wouldn't want to see it or its ilk in a horror movie marathon SAVE THAT IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY A VISITING DIRECTOR. To me, if the guest of honor wanted us to sit through "The Wizard of Oz" for its contribution to the horror genre, I'd accept it. Reserving one slot out of 24 hours for a film picked by a director of the celebrated genre is something to be mindful of. I applaud Gordon's attempt to expand an audience's appreciation for what horror IS...not necessarily as a film, but as a concept. It is something that matures our tastes and hopefully, the art form.
