And so begins my annual tradition for preparing of this year's marathon by re-watching the movies that played at last year's marathon.

The lineup today ...
The Black Cat
The Host
Masque of the Red Death

How about dropping 13 Ghost and Dress to Kill. To me A Serbian Film is borderline child pornography. A Serbian film is pure filth.

Since it is easier to get a print of the I Spit Remake since it is in AMC theaters right now.

Are you suggesting bumping 13 Ghosts or Dressed to Kill in favor of the I Spit remake which anyone can see right now at a theater?

I can say that since 13 Ghost and Dress to Kill is available on DVD what is the point screening them at this year's Horror Marathon.

Right now I Spit remake is in theaters but no movie theater in Ohio is screening the movie. Since I Spit Remake have 35MM prints available and make the movie easily available.

I want to see more premiers that isn't on commercial DVD or Blu Ray.

Psycho just got a new blu-ray release this week. Why show that? And House will be released next Tuesday.

To me, seeing something on film on the big screen with a crowd vs. watching something at home alone or with a small group are two different experiences. I’ll likely be able to watch I Spit ... in that environment whether it is in the marathon or not. When am I going to be able to see 13 Ghosts or Dressed to Kill like that?

I’m all for premieres, but if it’s going to be a premiere, let’s get a real premiere (like Let the Right One In or The Machinist) and not something that’s going to be on screens at the AMC in a week or two. (I'm assuming it'll be at AMC at some point in the near future -- if it isn't, then this would change my stance some what ... :) )

Yes, the impact of seeing a more well-known film, even one as renowned as Psycho, is quite different when viewed on a large screen (as originally intended by the filmmakers) and with a crowd...especially with the great crowd that comes to these shindigs every year.

We had I Spit on Your Grave on our radar for awhile, but things fell through. Securing premieres for an event like ours is getting a bit harder as time goes on, as you can probably tell by the lateness of today's announcement. Any more, studios, even smaller ones, sometimes view Columbus as being a smaller market, one not worth giving a one time premiere screening. It's not an accurate assumption, but it's the answer that we've received during some of this process. We're working on ways to remedy this, but in the meantime, we do what we can.

And you guys do an excellent job.

We don't hold you responsible for the ignorance of studio bigwigs.

I do enjoy the mixture of old and new movies. Premiers give me a chance to see moviesd that will never screen here in Columbus. I can't wait to see House with the marathon crowd. I do think Joe is doing his best getting the films. It still baffles me that Columbus is in the top 50 media markets and yet it is hard to get premiers for the Horror and Science Fiction Marathon.

I'm really excited about the SE Bread DVD. I can retire the old DVD.

I understand that it's a smaller market but I read a few years ago that Columbus Ohio was statistically almost a perfect cross section of America and that it's often used to test new products (especially new fast food sandwiches). Even so, Chicago didn't get a premiere this year either, despite getting several premieres over the past few years. I just think that studios don't have any guts these days, hence all the remakes and sequels. They are afraid of criticism, but at the same time they think so little of audiences that if we LOVED a premiere they'd probably dismiss us as dumb hicks. I work in the industry (although a number of degrees removed from Hollywood) but I often hear this talk from the producers I work with (one of whom produced Friday the 13th part 7-so he should know?). I can't make it this year, but you guys have a great lineup and I'm very jealous. Have fun!

I couldn't agree more. Although I have already seen and/or own many of the movies that play at both marathons, I have only seen a handful of them on the big screen, and that's the experience I prefer. Seeing a movie on the big screen that came out before I was born is a treat to me.

It's attending the marathons that turned me into such a big William Castle fan. Not only seeing them on the big screen, but also recreating the in-house experience that Castle intended.

On a side note, continuing my annual tradition, the line-up today is ...
From Beyond
Irreversible
I Sell the Dead

Since I finally gotten a Channel Master OTA HD DVR last week, I was able to record Law and Order SVU and Law and Order LA last night. Reason why is that I can watch the original Bread DVD for the last time and watch the following gonzo films to get ready for this weekend.

These are:

Meet the Feebles
Tokyo Gore Police
Ichi the Killer
Gozu

After I watched the RoboGeisha trailer It makes me want to see the movie more. If its distribute on DVD or Blu Ray please frame it correctly and be in its original soundtrack.

Is the screening schedule going to be posted beforehand or will it be a surprise until we get the programs Saturday?

Personally, I like the surprise, but I have two friends whose interest hinges on when certain films are screening (they're pansies and don't want to stay the night, so they're crossing their fingers that the ones they want to see are either early or late).

Just curious.

I do hope the schedule gets posted soon. Tomorrow is the day of rest or try to get some rest.

Bumping last year's thread due to today's news that Island Of Lost Souls is getting a pretty nice Blu Ray release courtesy Criterion:

Includes interview with John Landis, Rick Baker and Devo, among several others.
