Meatfetish I agree that skipping a marathon over one movie is silly. Which is why I said if both Martyrs and Serbian play I may consider skipping. Now you can say it's silly to skip over 2 films but they also threatened to bring night of the living bread films back so now I'm up to 3. :D

No honestly I've done extensive research on A Serbian Film and have read several audience reactions and reviews of the film and after hearing what is in it not only do I not want to be at the Marathon when this plays I don't want to be in Columbus when it plays. Or maybe even the State. In fact I may take that trip to the UK i've always wanted to just so I can lay low for a while until the screening of this blows over and those that watched it are finished with their therapy and declared sane to walk the streets again.

People had the same reaction to Happiness.

I am enjoying this spirited debate. There are excellent points made on both sides. What I am finding curious, though, is that you all are arguing back and forth as if it were a done deal. The last time I checked, A Serbian Film was not on the "officially booked" schedule. So chances are, none of you will have anything to worry about. :)

It seems foolish to me to skip a whole marathon over a couple of films. As I say before I'll be in the lobby or taking a walk if Martyrs screen. I load up some videos on one of my Blackberry memory card.

For the film Happiness it was the most boring offensive movie made. John Waters are offensive but entertaining.

If I can track down A Serbian Film to pass final judgment.

Iam your probably right. I'd say the debate is more about the subject matter of the film now rather then the threat of it playing at the thon. A film like this is likely to illicit strong debate especially when word gets out about it.

On aintitcoolnews Knowles did a strange review of the film where he encouraged everyone to see it. The talkback on that film was one of the most angry, emotional and heated i've seen. A majority of people from all walks of life and both sides of the political spectrum condemned the film.

I noticed a thread was started about the film. Maybe we should bring any further discussion there and keep this about the actual line up.

I'd say that's not so much a "threat" as a "promise" ... and if you want, you can take issue with Kevin himself, who will be coming to the Marathon all the way from Australia.

He's tall, though ... and skinny guys fight till they're 'burger. Just sayin'.

I think the debate is important regardless of the movie being shown. I really get bothered by the labeling of art as pornography. When art is labeled as pornography, it devalues the art. When you devalue the art, it makes it easler for the art to be censored, banned, etc. The definition of pornography is something with no artistic value meant to arouse. I feel that the filmmakers deserve to have their film seen before it is deemed worthless, and it is dangerous to do otherwise.

The point I was trying to make with Happiness is that audiences were horrified with it, but I feel that you can't dismiss it as trash or pornography.

Hey Zeke I don't think I'm going to fight the bread man. I was jesting about Bread as I know it's a thon staple. I just have never figured out if the audience is actually laughing with or at him (including the films).

On another note I found it hysterical last year when I woke up at 3:00 and found him staring at me from the screen.

As someone who's been around ever since Bread made it's first appearance - through the days when we got bread action figures - through the days we banned the throwing of bread - I think I can safely say that the majority of the audience is laughing with Kevin.

We do, after all, always end up asking "What about Bread?" whenever a bread film doesn't air.

Why did we ban throwing bread that was fun? And I always threw it at the snarkers I didn't think were funny.

Bring back the Bread action figures. Plus will there be a Special Edition of the DVD, Blu Ray? Want to see Bread in HD and surround sound.

There are two reasons that come to mind. The first is clean-up. Cleaning up bread that has been ground into the carpet for 18+ hours is probably no fun at all.

The other reason - and it's a biggie - is that people started throwing things other than bread. Someone threw a soda can at someone. That kind of hurts. A lot.
