Some people take it as cartoonish-violence, some as hyper-violent, but did you ever see Ichi the Killer?
I've never seen it. Do you recommend it? I read your recommendation of Casshern to someone on here. I rented it and loved it.
Hmm, I personally wouldn't recommend Audition. I mean, it is cringe/creepy-worthy here and there, and if that's what you're looking for, it's got it (you can get
major spoilers here). You might like
Rodger Swan's Japanese Horror Movie Reviews for a better idea too (although, I'm afraid there won't be any more of these because of Rodger's untimely death not long ago
) But in terms of plot, I wasn't that impressed. And if you know any of Miike's work, it's definitely in line with his usual stuff (like MPD Psycho, Ichi the Killer, etc). Really, I actually would say I preferred Miike's lighter fare like
Sukiyaki Western Django which is probably the most "out of the ordinary" thing Miike's done imo (although the US release had 23 minutes cut from it which is...very annoying).
And of course, to sound like a broken record, back on Casshern...the minute you can get your hands on
Goemon (which is by the makers of Casshern and is kinda like...historical fantasy) I do recommend that.
