Here we do 24 hours for horror in October and only a half marathon for sci-fi. Pretty odd lineup. I'm looking forward to Naked Lunch, though I think to call it sci-fi is a bit of a stretch, but I just like Cronenberg. Really The Blob 1988 is the only movie I really want to see as it's one of the few decent remakes and I've never seen it on the big screen. Critters 2 is a super odd choice but I think sometimes the host picks movies based entirely on what guest he can get. In October he played Romero's Season of the Witch because the "star" was available and he found a print. I don't know a single person who likes that movie, including Romero himself, and it's far from horror. So if any of these titles appeal to the Columbus crowd, prints are available for future marathons.

Would love to see "The Blob '88" on the big screen again, and when the movie is over and the credits are rolling they need to crank up the song during the credits "Brave New Love" by ALIEN. Great AOR from the 80's I have both U.S. releases that the song appeared on from 1988 and 1989.

Wait... What? I have no idea what you guys are talking about. I just failed "film fan trivia" cuz I never heard of the Romero Season of the Witch, and even an imdb search yielded nothing! Please enlighten me!

In any case, I have no intention of ever seeing the latter, so I'll never know which is better.

Is this one of your Earth "jokes?"

I will be VERY curious to see if the 1957 NOT OF THIS EARTH is shown. The last two times I am aware of that it was scheduled, the print ended up being the infamous Traci Lords re-make from the 80s.

I wonder if this is 16mm or DVD?

I'll be there Jaws.... Scott, the Romero Season of the Witch is wretched and even he doesn't like the film. It's also not a horror film in any sense of the word and I'm pretty sure the organizer played it simply because he found a print of it. I left to go home and feed the cat/take a nap. I'm told many others left after about 20 minutes. There's a DVD that was released a few years ago from Anchor Bay that I'm sure you can track down somewhere if you are really curious.

What an awesome event this was. Theater was beautiful and the crowd was fun.

The only film change was "Not of this Earth" they said the print was unplayable so they showed an earlier Roger corman film called "The day the World Ended" which was not a great movie but one I had never seen so it was worth watching, plus it starred Richard Denning who pretty much played the same character that he does in Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Krull was fun to watch after about 30 years but it was slower than my ten year old brain remembered, they could have easily cut out about 30 minutes of scenery and walking scenes which would have quickened the pace of the film.

Critters 2 was EXTREMELY fun to watch with a marathon crowd, everyone was laughing and applauding in all the right places and it was a thrill to meet the director Mick Garris in Person and have him sign my Critters 2 DVD and my limited edition Critters 2 poster.

Naked Lunch - was the low point of the Marathon for me (Sorry Joe) but it was to slow and well not very interesting. One good point was the cast..Robocop, Warlock, Ash and Chief Brody!!

Rubber - This is a must for a future marathon. Very Funny and Original!

The Blob ‘88 - This was the high point of the marathon for me and the crowd ate it up (no pun intended) meeting the director Chuck Russell in Person was amazing and I had him sign my Blob DVD and limited Edition Blob Poster. This movie is proof that remakes can work.

Event Horizon - What can I say, Great Cast, fast paced Sci-Fi/Horror the perfect way to end a marathon. I think this would cross over well into the Horror marathon also.

2 small complaints:

1) NO Food - they had no food other than Popcorn and Candy but luckily there was a Subway right down the street.

2) They wouldn't play all the credits at the end of the BLOB as I requested "due to time constraints" so I didn't get to jam to "Brave new love" by ALIEN.

On the Plus side I got to hang out with MEATFETISH and the theater had several vendors selling rare movie memorabilia including DVD's of rare movies that have never had an official DVD release, posters, toys, artwork etc.

I can honestly say that I can see this becoming an annual event for myself. The 6 hour trip was well worth it.
