I just finished reading "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins"

First let me cut off Joe, Bruce, Jim, Vince, Josh, Mike, Aaron and all the other smart-a$$es on here and let me just say Yes I know how to read and yes from time to time I stop watching movies long enough to read a book :P

In this case my oldest daughter asked me to read this book because she loved it and we have similar taste in Books, movies and music (Yes I raised her right)

Many People believe that "The Hunger Games" book series will be the next Harry Potter (and Yes I read all the Harry Potter books and all of them were better than the movies although I enjoyed the movies also)

Also "The Hunger Games" is being made into a Major Motion Picture and will be released in 2012.

I lifted this from wikipedia to give you an idea of the story:

"It was originally published on September 14, 2008, by Scholastic. It is the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy. It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once existed. This is where a government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each of 12 districts to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate that not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's jurisdiction."

This is a savage look at the future filled with violence, anger and the never ending hope that humans hold on to even in the worst of situations. I can't wait for the Movie which features a cast of up and coming young stars along side of some of Hollywoods biggest stars like Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Donald Southerland.

I actually just recently finished the trilogy of those books myself.

Excellent reads. Fast, easy and engaging, but with some very cool ideas that make you think.

Katniss is an interesting protagonist. Not entirely sympathetic, but likable enough that you care about her. I think Jennifer Lawrence will do her due justice.

Collins has described herself as being inspired by the similarity between watching war coverage and the way we watch reality TV. It's not a bad inspiration.

I definitely say they're worth checking out.

Is this not just a Battle Royale ripoff?? An Americanized version because America's actually too afraid to distribute the original over here?

I can see how it could be seen that way but it actually goes into more about society and the division of class, also the human depravity to watch other humans suffer, Much like watching Dancing with the Starts or American Idol

I just finished the 3rd and final book and was very dissapointed how the Author choose to end it but I still plan to see the movie because the first 2 books were very well done.
