We all know the debate about George Lucas and his non-stop tinkering with the original Star Wars trilogy and his refusal to release a decent dvd or blu-ray of them (Seriously-was it that hard to make the dvds 16x9. That was the most insulting thing he could do to the fans). So I have not given him my money, again, for the new Star Wars blu-rays. I'd love to see the special features but that's not enough to get my hard earned money this time. But there are 2 ways Lucas can get my money again: release the original trilogy on 16x9 widescreen blu-ray next reissue OR if you must tinker with them, then remove Jar Jar Binks entirely from the prequels and I'll buy them no matter what he does with the original.

Until Lucas releases a Special Edition Blu-Ray of Howard the Duck I refuse to support Him.

Lucas hasn't made My List yet, but he's certainly not getting my money for the BluRay set. We'll never see the original release re-issued at this point, simply because of his ridiculously idiotic choices made at the time of the special edition.

I think I linked to an article about it a while back, but the decision to cut the new scenes into the original negative (AFTER it had already been recreated and restored) has ruined the stock forever. One hates to use the word "never" but I wouldn't expect it, certainly not while Lucas is alive.

But again, people, we can complain about it all we want ... but the ONLY VIABLE VOTE WE HAVE IS WITH OUR MONEY.

That's noble of you...

...except for the part where it has shattered all records for BluRay sales.

What settled it for me was the decision to not include any extras in any of the separate packages. I was willing to bite the bullet for the now ironically titled "original" trilogy, but all the bells and whistles are only included if you buy the whole damn thing for $100 bucks. So, no thanks.

I know the endless debate rages on and you can be nitpicky until the cows come home. But for me the central point has always been this: The first three Star Wars films, in their unaltered form, are amongst those rare crop of films that are timeless (even in spite of the '70s haircuts). The prequels became dated very quickly, even though there were parts of them that I enjoyed at the time.

I never said my vote wasn't lost in a sea of fannish consumerism. :)

All of which, of course, only serves to give Lucas even more justification for his actions. Which in turn just makes me less inclined to give him any more of my money.

But then, I also yell at kids to get off my lawn. I never claimed to be fully rational.

STAR WARS fanboys. Sheeesh! Just go buy the BLADE RUNNER mega-set, where you can get every scrap of every version, etc.

Besides, it's a far superior film. But I wouldn't want to stir up your collective wrath, now...or would I?

It all just makes me wonder if Lucas really honestly dislikes the original versions and thinks the "enhancements" really make them better films despite nearly universal condemnation or if it's the most cynical ploy ever to milk us out of thousands of dollars when he finally releases them on his death bed. There's no reason he couldn't do the same thing as Blade Runner. And failing that-remove Jar Jar Binks darn it! C'est la vie....

Man, you make one comment about voting with your wallet and along comes this guy with his cattle prod. Come see Joe in his next new movie, "The Boy Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest."

In theaters this Spring. :)

Ok I am just gonna say this, I have seen Blade Runner a few times and I never thought it was all that great. I don't dislike the movie but I wouldn't choose to pop the DVD in, when it's played at the marathon I enjoyed it but mainly because of the theater experience more than the film itself.

I would much rather watch HIGHLANDER!!
