And while one could argue that Thor leans more towards fantasy, they really tried their best to science things up in that movie (both with Natalie Portman and her scientist buddies and with making the Rainbow Bridge a bit more scientific-looking and not purely mystical), obviously in an attempt to help Thor mesh a bit more with the other characters in the Avengers Universe.


That looks like it was a fun lineup. I really ought to try to make it up there one of these years. Cleveland isn't that much farther than Columbus.

If you haven't linked Mr. Einhorn's extended review, do so. Since most of you have probably read him before I am sure you know he is articulate and best of all, gives clear reasons behind his opinions. I still disagree about 9. As he says it is "A labor of love." It's originality & craft more than makes up for the weak story.
Otherwise we are pretty much in the same camp.
cleazer is right about my offhand comment about the 4 highest receipt SF films of last year being shown. Actually looking it up I discovered that I had left out 4 superhero movies. Some are arguably not SF, but then I included the X-Men flic so I really have no leg to stand on. Sorry for the carelessness.
I also left out (repressed?) the Transformers sequel plus Real Steel. Still wrong, but I feel less apologetic.
Hope to see some of you next year.

To be fair, I might have liked 9 better if it hadn't come so late in the event, when I was so tired.

I'm not certain I would have - there still seem to be serious structural difficulties with the film, and I am almost always a story over visuals kind of person - but I'm willing to grant the possibility.

I'll probably check it out again on Netflix at some point in the future.
