I had no clue until I saw a random Facebook posting yesterday that there was a rare 35mm screening of Zardoz in Chicago last night! Having never seen it, there was no way I could pass up the chance to see this crapterpiece on the big screen in glorious 35mm. In fact I think it's cinema lovers' duty to see every 35mm screening they can these days.

I can't believe I've never seen this one before last night. Wow! What a fascinating mess of a film! How did this get released?!!! I can only imagine they got Sean Connery in it with the following pitch: "You only have to work 6 hours a day. It's near your home. Every drug you could ask for will be on the craft service table. And there will be dozens of half naked women worshipping you like a God!" This would've been a great 5 am movie at your marathon. But what was most surprising to me was how many people were in the audience. It was at The Portage theater which seats over 1000 so it's hard to judge accurately, but I'd guess there were at least 250 people there, and I ran into 5 people I knew which was totally random. Anyway, it gave me a little hope for future marathons and screenings because a) there's a good 35mm print of Zardoz still being rented and b) there's an audience to see these films like they were intended-with an audience and on 35mm! I really hope that the marathons either sever ties with the Drexel or that next year the Drexel actually uses the 35mm projector that rumor has it they still have!
