The CWRU Film Society released their first list of marathon films on Facebook.

After Earth
Iron Giant
Brazil
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Primer
Children of Men
Monsters Inc &
World's End

As usual, nothing experimental or particularly original. Later add-ons & Surprises (usually 3) tend to be oldies, but again, nothing particularly obscure.
The last few years they have shown 14-16 films plus 8-10 cartoons & shorts, so there will be a bunch more announced.
Here's the link http://films.cwru.edu/marathon.phpto what they've shown in the past. Scroll down for the listing by specific thon.

Hmmm...I don't have a problem with seeing movies I've seen before, but I have seen all of those except for After Earth and Killer Klowns. I have no interest in seeing the former and can see the latter on Netflix. But who knows, maybe I'll get in the mood once the date gets closer.

By the way, if you've seen After Earth, or if you just think it's stupid on principle and want to hear some funny people make fun of/analyze it, I recommend this episode of How Did This Get Made?

It beats THE POSTMAN.

Probably why Postman was a surprise.
Said that their choices weren't particularly "Obscure".
Beats The Land Before Time, Surprise #2 from the same year.
And beats the hell out of Battlefield Earth from a couple of years ago.
My theory is that Charley Knox & the other schedulers deliberately list a long groaner a little way into the night to provide sleep time for the regulars. Old hands plan their nap breaks at CWRU.
Iron men in Columbus may try to gut out 24 hours. But 30-34 hours is downright impossible. It ain't worth the macho thrill of propping your eyes open with toothpicks for the duration.

Slight update.
CWRU/Cleveland has now announced ten films - with the usual addition of thyree surprises

8:00PM -- After Earth (2013)
10:30PM -- The Iron Giant (1999)
12:30AM -- SURPRISE 1!
2:00AM -- Men In Black III (2012)
4:15AM -- Mysterious Island (1961)
6:30AM -- Brazil (1985)
9:15AM -- Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
11:15AM -- Primer (2004)
1:00PM -- Children of Men (2006)
3:45PM -- Dune (1984)
6:30PM -- SURPRISE 2!
9:00PM -- Monsters, Inc (2001)
11:00PM -- The World's End (2013)
Who knows. Perhaps I'll finally be able to stay awake through all (seems like) three hours of Dune.
List is better than it looks - if you like recent stuff. The usual for the Surprises is one new film, one cult, and one absolute deadly sleep inducing turkey.

Hmmm. I kind of dig this line-up. May have to try to make it work again this year.

I've never been to this marathon, but is this the one where people bring sleeping bags and sit on the floor? Also, what's the site/source for these lineup announcements?

The event's site is at:

Don't know where Pogo is getting the info for this year's event.

Facebook.

Bring your own food. Concessions are also cheap (candy, popcorn, coffee & hot dogs). The catered pizza, subs, & doughnuts brought in periodically are quite pricy
Spread a mattress on the (very deep) stage. But get there early. Stage space is limited.
Sleep in the balcony (or in the second floor lounge if you want to skip a film)
They also now allow you to come for part of the event. You drop off ID at ticket table, and pay for what you saw on the way out.

Showed it in 2000.
Never seen it myself. Got a good two hour sleep that year.

Just a reminder. The CWRU/Cleveland 30(?) hour marathon starts at 8:00 PM this Friday, 1/17/14.
See the list of films above.
I'll be the guy throwing fruit to the audience from the stage.
Say hello.

The final Marathon was not that great.
The surprises were MARS ATTACKS!!! (Great film, but everyone's seen it many times) & 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Several others were quite good. If you haven't seen it, Children of Men is perhaps the best acted - and most depressing dystopia ever filmed. It strikes a little too close to home.
But the base list was certainly not great.
Audience was okay although not anywhere as funny as the fairly continuous commenters thought they were.
Met some new Columbus stalwarts, plus four regulars from Ohio's second (Ahem) city.
Perhaps one of them would like to comment on the show.
