The Marathon Organizers have not yet grasped the power of Twitter and the like. For example, with just a couple "tweets" I had Erica Hayden (Director of The Last Push) on the phone doing an interview for the entire Marathon Audience to enjoy. That is real power and it works. If the Organizers used Twitter and the like to the fullest potential every marathon would be sold out weeks in advance.
