Boy, those Columbus summers are scorchers!Yep, we're preeettty excited about this one! It's the return of SHOCK-O-RAMA, your favorite annual kickoff to Horror Marathon season. This year, for the first time, we polled the Nightmarathoid Faithful over on the Facebook event page to see what theme they'd be interested in. And the overwhelming favorite was a tribute to the the horror films of 1988 (which also ties in with this fall's 30th Anniversary of the Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon.) Duly tasked, we've assembled a five film lineup that hopefully covers the many nooks and crannies of what history has shown to be a fascinating and underrated year for the genre. The gruesome slate includes:
-Chuck Russell's wonderfully goopy remake of THE BLOB
-George Romero's psychopathic simian psychological thriller MONKEY SHINES (in Glorious 35mm!)
-Wes Craven's chilling plunge into voodoo terror, THE SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW
-The NEW RESTORATION of Frank Henenlotter's insane splatter comedy BRAIN DAMAGE
-The cult horror comedy favorite WAXWORK
And, as usual, we'll be having the EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT of the film lineup for this October's 10th Annual SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK. Yes, SHOCK-O-RAMA attendees will see a trailer reel of all the films for October, and then be the privileged few who know this lineup until we publicly roll it out later on that Sunday night. Plus, we'll have the usual slate of 35mm trailers and shorts, and prize giveaways that you've grown to love.
It all goes down at 10pm Saturday August 18th at the Drexel Theater (2254 E. Main St.). Tickets are NOW ON SALE at the Drexel box office, Laughing Ogre Comics (4258 N. High St.), and via PayPal at
