As you all well known there are 5 days left. What are some final thoughts, how do you keep busy, ect.

Well I do have some high hopes for Alien Trespass and I known that Tokyo Gore Police will be a hit.

Can't wait to see a low budget 1950's flick in 3D Cat Women from the Moon. 64 minuets of sci fi schlock in 3D. Logan's Run on the widescreen hearing the snarking. The virgans seeing Spaceboy for the first time.

Since I'm working part-time I have about 48 hours to kill during the week. I do coulple of volunteer shifts at WCRS 102.1 98.3, watch sci fi flicks ect.

I usually spend this week watching the films from last year’s marathon.

I don't actually do a lot to prepare for the marathon until Friday, when I'll be packing my stuff together and making a trip to the grocery for last minute essentials.

Now that I write for MovieWeb, and am recapping the marathons, I also spend part of the week beforehand looking up details for the films that I know about, so that on Sunday I won't have to waste time looking up story codes, or IMDB links, or writing who the director, star or year of release for a movie while writing the story.

As I wrote in another post, I prepare for the 'thon by listening to "Brain In A Box": The Science Fiction Collection. It really sets the tone for me. I listen to it year round, really, but especially in the weeks before the marathon.

Last night I watched "Frankenstein Meets The Space Monster" (which played a couple of years ago) while I was practicing guitar.

I am really psyched. I'm going to try to get LOTS of sleep this week to prepare...I live 3 hours away, so in addition to staying awake for 24+ hours, I have to drive before and after.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Concur with the 'extra sleep' line item if possible.

I may watch a Sci-Fi movie or two this week...maybe an MST3K or two...

Also I will practice my throat punches for those who try to sneak food into the Thong...

I have this horrific image of many of the regualrs wearing thongs to sneak food into the thon. If I wasn't already home sick today...

The main things I do to prep are try to get some additional sleep and make sure everything work related is done or pointed to somone else so I don't get bothered. I also try to figure out, now, what to do with my son who is still too young to attend.

I'll repost what I wrote before. Oh, and by the way, I maintained my never having fallen asleep streak with this February's Boston Marathon. Not even a head snap! :) :

My Guide On How To STAY AWAKE all 24 Hours!

Been going to Marathons since...gulp...1979 and have never fallen asleep!

Tips:

1. GET SOME REST before the Marathon. Easier said than done sometimes, I understand. Particularly, if the Marathon starts at Midnight! But, do your best. Also, I start a Vitamin, Echinesia, Zinc pill-popping regimen the week before the Marathon to be as illness resistant as I can.

2. LIMIT CAFFEINE. One year, early on in my Marathon career, I thought popping No-Doz was a good idea. It wasn't. 3/4 of the way through, I thought I was having an ulcer right smack in the middle of DEMON SEED (that 'demon' was in my stomach!). More importantly, the constant ups and downs eventually catches up to you (same goes for excessive Sugar intake). Some folks have a higher built-up tolerence, but go easy.

3. Wear COMFORTABLE CLOTHES. That Klingon mask and paraphernalia might seem cool at noon, but by midnight, it likely won't. Also, a pillow or neck/back support might be in order.

4. EAT as LITTLE as possible. Again, early on, I looked forward to the Marathon as a 24 hour junk food party. Over the years, I have seen many many Marathoners "go down for the count" long before the finish line due to upset stomachs. Pizza, burritos, Chinese, Indian, Thai food are all favorites, but I would stay away from them. I eat a big breakfast. Then nibble, nibble, nibble all day and night with only 1 warm meal (usually just a chicken sandwich without fries, shakes or too many condiments). Maybe , something warm for breakfast. Otherwise, it's prezels, chocolate covered raisins, several Power/Energy bars and lots and lots of water. Boring? Yup, but this is SURVIVAL!!

5. GET UP AND MOVE AROUND!! I pop out of my seat after EVERY SINGLE MOVIE and move around. If you think to yourself, "Oh, I'll just grab a little 5 minute nap between movies" - you're likely a goner. That walk around will do you much more good than a 5 minute nap. Longer naps are another story (for wimps!), but this is about staying awake the whole 24.

6. PSYCH YOURSELF UP!! Come on, this is one (long) day a year! ONE! You can't get psychologically get yourself tuned up to stay awake one little night a year?! Think of all the cool movies and shorts you are going to see! All the bad puns and callbacks you'll hear! The fun you have reminicing with fellow Marathoners throughout the year! The pride and honor of being a 24 HOUR SURVIVOR! You CAN do it!!

That's it. 6 simple rules to follow, and you can join the Android brigade like myself! You'll never miss a single ray gun shooting, alien attack, day for night scene, cheezy line of dialogue, CGI overloaded frame, vintage trailer or Bruce quip again!!

Great advice. To reveal my identity I'll be the one with the 22 once bottel of NOS energy drink wearing an plaid hoodie/jacket and a collar shirt. With my old PC Technician training courses bag. I'm supposed to be in a newspaper article this week about the Columbus Science Fiction Marathon. Nick from the Dispatch interviewed me as some of the other veterans. My fist horror thon was the 24 hours one over at Studio 35 with Joe Bob Briggs as guest and the first year at the Arena Grand. So I've been to every Sci Fi from the first Arena Grand and missed out one of the horror thons due to work.

Please don't bring outside food. This is for the lurkers and not so much for the posters. If they are wearing thongs to sneak food in, I do not want to take them out. If they like the taste and smell of ass. Then let them eat it.

This year instead of an empty stomach arriving around 6:40AM (Barring any troubles with COTA, or I take the plunge and walk down to the Drexel from my South Grant Ave apartment. You don't want to be in that area from that homeless shelter on E Main and Carpenter ST in the dark.) Ill Stop By and get a Sausage muffing and a egg biscuit from the McDonalds on Grant and E Main.

Don't fill up on the candy, popcorn, and soda. I don't want to see the low budget remake of The Creeping Terrors. One year this "person" make one of the stall's unusable. The stench make me sick to my stomach. If you want the details then PM me. I can be very graphic.

Pay attention to the weather. The weather according to http://www.weather.com/weather/weekend/ ... undeclared states that there is a possibility of rain and cold. The high is only going to be in the 57 degrees on Saturday and a high of 48 on Sunday. Other words cold and raining. Dress warmly. Don't come in shorts and a t-shirt and complain how cold it is. True is spring but it doesn't warm up until April. Perfect time to be inside a theater for 24 hours.

Well the diagnostic software is done testing the hardware so back to work.

With "brown streaks" and some sort of yellow stains on the packaging. I'll bet Joe, Bruce, and the other moderators are getting queasy now.

I'm really going to pretend I didn't read this thread. And if I read it again I may lock it, delete it, burn it, or otherwise banish it from the boards in the name of the public sanity.

But then, this IS the Marathon crowd ... ;)

So, back to other stuff that is done to prepare for the marathon...

One thing I do indulge myself in is listening to old-time radio dramas. Some of the best stories in science-fiction came about during the days of Radio shows, and one of my personal favorites lives on in podcast form.

The show I am referring to is X-1, and the stories from that show manage to remind me of the best of both Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.

I've got about 70 episodes on my iPod.

Want a listen? Go here.

Well I'm at the WCRS LPFM Studios and I schedule Spaceboy to play around 3:26:59PM and at 7:55:59PM. After the sign off message it will play again until 3 minuets after 1AM. Note this is low power and here are the frequency's 102.1 (main) 98.3 (translator/signal relay) 98.3 is the strongest.

Well over the years that Joe and Bruce screened many over the top gore flicks that are ten times worst than the current postings. With Meet the Feebles of last year Columbus Horror Thon and Tokyo Gore Police featuring a Gimp that puts the gimp from Pulp Fiction to shame. If you look at the official one sheet of the Columbus Science Fiction Thon features a disturbing Snail Girl. SPOILER ALERT!!!!! Well that Snail Girl is in Tokyo Gore Police.

Well Right now I'm catching up on some of the Big Finish Doctor Who Audio Dramas. Good thing that I can buy the MP3 files instead of the CD's.
