Well, the 00's (Aughts) are over.

What were your favorite SF FILMS OF THE DECADE?

Going over my lists, I will begin by listing the Best SF Film of each year chronologically - One per Year:

2000: FREQUENCY
2001: DONNIE DARKO
2002: MINORITY REPORT
2003: 28 DAYS LATER
2004: THE INCREDIBLES
2005: 2046
2006: V FOR VENDETTA
2007: I AM LEGEND
2008: WALL-E
2009: STAR TREK


Notable genre borderline picks would include: THE DARK NIGHT, SPIDERMAN II, WAKING LIFE, KING KONG and IRON MAN. Depends on your definitions.


These are not necessarily my Best 10 overall, just a listing of the best I saw in each year.


Your list? Either Best per year, or just Best 10 overall?????

You saw The Man From Earth?!!!!

I thought I was the only one. Kudos to you for giving a shout out to this fine overlooked indie gem! For those of you with NetFlix (and those who ignored my advice a year and a half ago), it is available to stream instantly so what are you waiting for?

District 9 is definately the best Science Fiction film I have seen in many years, but I would have to think a lot longer and harder than I want to if I were to compile a list. I also saw it with the right crowd, which is always a bonus.

Another good marathon-related mention of Equilibrium, the value of which may have diminished had I not seen it with the marathon crowd and zero expectations...

I am more of a superhero fan then I am a science fiction fan, and this list reflects that.

2009 - Star Trek
2008 - Iron Man
2007 - 300
2006 - Pan's Labyrinth (although it only barely made the cut, since it came in late December)
2005 - Serenity
2004 - Hard to choose between Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Godzilla Final Wars, Hellboy and Spider-Man 2, but ultimately: The Incredibles
2003 - Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, but very closely followed by X2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
2002 - Spider-Man
2001 - Metropolis
2000 - Memento (with X-Men close on it's heels!)

I know I’m gonna catch a lot of flak for this, but I’m a big budget, blockbuster kinda guy. I do enjoy “true” sci-fi, but I also get a kick out of mindless action and special effects.

2000 – Pitch Black
2001 – Evolution
2002 – Signs
2003 – Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
2004 – I, Robot
2005 – Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
2006 – Superman Returns
2007 – Transformers <-- and here’s where people really start giving me crap, lol
2008 – Iron Man
2009 – This one’s a tie between Star Trek and Avatar

And like L.A. Connection said; this is in no way a list of my favorite movies of the decade, only picking my favorite sci-fi films (one per year).
