It all comes down to film availiblity. They can't get prints from private collectors who obtain prints from dubious means. I'm glad that there are movies being screen that I've never seen before. It is better than last year's lineup.

Yeah. Just like I mentioned a few posts up. But... all signs point to that ain't happening.

Now, I preface this by saying *I KNOW NOTHING OFFICIAL* about the final lineup at this point (certainly no more than the rest of you), but the runtime of the films as given has us approximately one movie short of last year.

Bruce mentioned that he's awaiting confirmation on one final screening. If that should fall through, I'd say it's likely that we'll have a last-minute classic fall into its place instead.

Or not ... as I say, I know nothing. :)

I too was surprised at the lack of older content this marathon, but I'm pleased enough with the lineup as it now stands. A lot of the recent stuff really is worth catching on the big screen.

But I'd still rather that Banzai was in the list. ;)

Trust me, that's the direction the Boston 'thon has gone down for many years, alarming many Marathoid traditionalists. A growing emphasis on newer and newer films, with some years approaching a 50-50 split of films made the previous year (or so).

Boston's Marathon has officially been redubbed a "Festival". Could Columbus be next?

We've got 5 movies that were all made last year.
The two shorts being shown are also from last year. One from 2008.A 90s film. Two 80s films. And one from the 50s...
Just a mild suggestion, of course. It's just that when I compare this year's lineup to previous ones, it just looks odd to me seeing how it appears to be dominated by newer films.

I've have no worries the Columbus Science Fiction Marathon will continue as is. It just comes down to witch movies are available. I like to see sci fi movies that doesn't follow the same convictions.

Today I start my annual tradition of watching the movies that played at last year's marathon in preparation for this year's marathon. On the schedule for today is Logan's Run and Timecrimes.

I actually went back a little further than that...last night I couldn't sleep and watched "Night Of The Comet" at 2am.

Other "theaters" or "patrons" must reading some of this cause in the past week I've been approached to "assist" in possible other marathons in the sci-fi/horror realm at other theaters in Columbus. Will this consist of an "overthrow" or "more competition",I can't say at this point but it seems that out of frustration has grown a groundswell of activity on others that maybe have more vision.

I'm curious. Who/where are these other marathons? I haven't heard of that many...

Ticket prices have officially gone up.

Secondly, to my knowledge, we are waiting on confirmation of atleast one more film... I don't have any further information other than that...

That's what I am saying. I 've been contacted by "others" to possibly start other offshoot or seperate marathons at other theaters it looks like. What factors played into this I'm not sure. The wait for films. The lack of guests. Lack of flyer and advertisment. The film selections. All I know at this point is two persons(that I can't name) have contacted me to start up(or continue) other sci-fi/horror marathons around town. I don't know what role I will play but they seem interested in my celebrity connections and access to film prints that never seem to make into the other marathons around town.
Since I have a background in doing my own marathons(The All Night Shriek O Ramas in Delaware,OH)maybe they are wishing to do such a thing as the classic Studio 35 Vs. Drexel showdown of the past in which Studio 35 got Tom Savini and had a sellout. Can't really say at this point but all I know is they wish to talk to me. Nothing like a little healthy competition to stir the stew, I guess.

I have only been to one marathon with you guys and that was the one with Automatons and I loved every part of it (the marathon itself, not Automatons). I sang "Flash" the whole way home... I unfortunately have not been to one since because I always get stuck doing something for work on that day which is so frustrating because it keeps happening. I am not a veteran like most of you guys on here but I signed up for a user account after going to the marathon and read it almost everyday. I love the camaraderie that a lot of you have for this event and even though I am part of the problem by not attending I still believe you guys do an amazing job and have a great selection every year!
That being said, Infra-Kid quit being a jerk. I've met Adam West too but I don't have people showing 12 hours worth of movies in their basement banging on my door. :P

Ah, well, good luck with the others then. As I'm sure you're well aware, putting together a marathon can be difficult. :)
