It's a brand new year! What do we want to see in 2008?

Night of the Creeps
My Name is Bruce- might be a little too goofy....
War Gods of the Deep w/Vincent Price
Beast Master- yay- Don Coscarelli
Yog, the Monster from Outer Space
Master of the World- another Vincent Price classic
The Omega Man- in response to Will Smith's I Am Legend
One Million BC
Johnny Mnemonic- which really wasn't all that bad pre-Matrix
Galaxy Quest
Space Balls
Ghidrah- The 3-Headed Monster- gratuitous Japanese monster movie
Ed Wood- they did that biopic a few years ago- why not the Depp/Burton
movie?
IT! The Terror From Beyond Space

I don't think such a thing is possible. And this would have to be better than the Helix.

Let me add Bubba Ho Tep and Dannie Darko to the list.

I’d love to see any of the following …

Plan 9 from Outer Space
Labyrinth
Dark Crystal
Monster Squad
Light Years
Rock n Rule
Starchaser: the Legend of Orin
Batman (Tim Burton)

As for “My Name is Bruce” being too silly … they were going to play “Slither” last year for god sakes!! I can’t believe it’s only about three months away; I’m starting to get excited!

They showed Batman last year and Light Years was premiered at the 2nd Sci Fi Marathon. Since they didn't get to it last year, maybe they'll show Slither this year. Night of the Creeps/Slither slugfest would be fun.

I'll wish for a few good serials.

I really liked the Batman serials from a few years ago and the Flash Gordon serial last year.

I'll also wish for any upbeat or fun or brightly-colored movie like Flash Gordon to end the marathon this year. Everybody walked out with a smile on their face last year. I'd love to see something similar this year.

I'm sorry, but JOHNNY MNEMONIC is that bad.

OMEGA MAN, four years ago for a repeat is probably too soon.

GALAXY QUEST and SPACEBALLS have never shown and would fit comfortably into the middle of the night goofy movie slot. One but probably not both in the same marathon.

While ED WOOD is a great film, I don't think it fits at our marathon. The Sci-Fi elements just aren't constant enough.

Instead of GHIDRAH, I would vote for a return showing of the classic MYSTERIANS. Probably the most fun I've had watching a Japanese film at a marathon the last time it played.

I think our Bruce will absolutely persue MY NAME IS BRUCE. The timing, the name and the subject matter all fit. Whether or not he gets it is another story.

Another vote for DONNIE DARKO here, though some hate it. You can always show it after midnight so the haters can snooze.

Since a major studio release from the past year or so traditionally is booked, I vote this year for A SCANNER DARKLY or CHILDREN OF MEN.

Another somewhat recent release I would lobby for is PITCH BLACK.

Beating my dead horse: Carpenter's THE THING.

Bruce teased us last year with his quest for the marathon debut of THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH, that would still be cool.

Many more, but those are off the top of my head.

If a print of LOGANS RUN falls from the sky out of whatever black hole it is in, I'm sure this is the first place it would land. Same with GREEN SLIME, whose trailer plays almost every year.

Some more thoughts after consideration:

First of all, I'm sorry for mentioning THE THING again. I think it is widely recognized that most of the fans of this marathon have been wanting to see this, so this is the last time I will mention it so as not to sound like a broken record. THEY LIVE has never played here, though. That would be cool as well.

I heard a rumor that an older version of BLADE RUNNER may have shown recently at a (cough cough) similar event and may have even been (cough cough)considered for here. I would love to see THE FINAL CUT on the big screen this year.

Since our friends in Boston often use the same sources, you can count on at least a couple films that have played there recently. I would vote for ROBOCOP and A BOY AND HIS DOG, which I'm told is hard to find, but Boston somehow snagged it. I'm sure the reverse is true and they are looking to get their hands on our rare prints of WESTWORLD and FLASH GORDON.

We haven't had a cool guest in a while if you don't count that arrogant guy whose name sounded like a disease. Phil Tippett was cool, and refreshingly honest about the quality of his film. Not to get my hopes up, but... as some of you may know, Joe was able to book Bruce Campbell a few years ago at his horror marathon. It just so happens that Bruce has directed himself in a small film looking for publicity this spring. Hmmm.... interesting.

That is all I have for now. I'll post more thoughts as they come to me, I'd love to hear yours.

Classic!

Frankly, just show any Triumph clip for a good laugh right before a silly flick. How about the Triumph clip with Shatner?

Oooh, oooh, oooh, can we get Starship Troopers Marauder for a premiere this year?

I recall A Boy and his Dog from back in the early days of the marathon. Other than seeing a young Don Johnson in general, one limerick stands out. This is from memory so it might have been saftey belts, not seat belts.

There once was a young man named Rodge
Who put seatbelts in his old Dodge
He strapped his girl in
And commited a sin
Without ever leaving the garage.

I've listed wish lists and ideal marathon lineups more times than I can count, so rather than beat an extremely dead horse I will instead suggest something totally crazy. A marathon sandwiched in between Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla and Godzilla/Mothra/Mechagodzilla:Tokyo SOS.

These are the new Millenium Mechagodzilla films featuring the mech G-fans know as Kiryu. These two films have the distinction of being connected as a continous story with Tokyo SOS being a direct sequel to G Against MG.

If the marathon crowd loved Godzilla Final Wars then these two films should get ate up seeing how they have a more coherent and interesting story and superior special effects to boot IMO. Sure they may not be as fun or crazy as Final Wars, but then again these are more serious films by comparrison.

I can't remember- did they ever show The Land That Time Forgot at any of the marathons? I think it was about WWI or II submarine that somehow ends up in a prehistoric land. It's another movie I remember staying up late on Friday to watch on the Night Owl theatre. Can't remember the last time that I saw this film.

Don't see why not, after all we had 'At The Earth's Core' three years ago. 'Land That Time Forgot' is one of my favorites too, would love to see another McClure dino flick hit the thon.

Would it be too much to aim high and try for an upcoming summer movie?More than likely, but it never hurts to just throw a couple on a wish list anyways.

Iron Man
Dark Knight
Incredible Hulk
Hancock

Most likely impossible, but you never know.
