It's a brand new year! What do we want to see in 2008?
Night of the Creeps
My Name is Bruce- might be a little too goofy....
War Gods of the Deep w/Vincent Price
Beast Master- yay- Don Coscarelli
Yog, the Monster from Outer Space
Master of the World- another Vincent Price classic
The Omega Man- in response to Will Smith's I Am Legend
One Million BC
Johnny Mnemonic- which really wasn't all that bad pre-Matrix
Galaxy Quest
Space Balls
Ghidrah- The 3-Headed Monster- gratuitous Japanese monster movie
Ed Wood- they did that biopic a few years ago- why not the Depp/Burton
movie?
IT! The Terror From Beyond Space
I'm sorry, but JOHNNY MNEMONIC
is that bad.
OMEGA MAN, four years ago for a repeat is probably too soon.
GALAXY QUEST and SPACEBALLS have never shown and would fit comfortably into the middle of the night goofy movie slot. One but probably not both in the same marathon.
While ED WOOD is a great film, I don't think it fits at our marathon. The Sci-Fi elements just aren't constant enough.
Instead of GHIDRAH, I would vote for a return showing of the classic MYSTERIANS. Probably the most fun I've had watching a Japanese film at a marathon the last time it played.
I think our Bruce will absolutely persue MY NAME IS BRUCE. The timing, the name and the subject matter all fit. Whether or not he gets it is another story.
Another vote for DONNIE DARKO here, though some hate it. You can always show it after midnight so the haters can snooze.
Since a major studio release from the past year or so traditionally is booked, I vote this year for A SCANNER DARKLY or CHILDREN OF MEN.
Another somewhat recent release I would lobby for is PITCH BLACK.
Beating my dead horse: Carpenter's THE THING.
Bruce teased us last year with his quest for the marathon debut of THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH, that would still be cool.
Many more, but those are off the top of my head.
