The good news is I just got word of another regular length film (Sleep Dealer) and a short film (Long Haired Giant Monster: Gehara) that we'll be showing at the 'thon:

The bad news is, so far, it looks like Buckaroo Banzai may officially be a no show. To my understanding, there are still efforts to obtain a copy, but given Fox lost the rights and there are difficulties locating a print so far, it may just not make it this year. :(

Wow.

The Japanese sci-fi fan in me loves the twist this year's marathon is taking, but that aside this seems rather unusual.

Not complaining mind you, just an observation.

But if the marathon is turning Japanese then once again I must beat the ever dead rotting corpse of what once was a horse. THE MARATHON NEEDS 'CASSHERN'! Even if it meant dropping one of the other Japanese entries in exchange.

Just a suggestion though of course.

Actually I kept meaning to ask you, did you ever see Goemon, which was made by the makers of Casshern? Not really sci fi, but...amazing...

That's a bummer about Buckaroo. It would be a wonderful fit in what is becoming a somewhat "hard SciFi" leaning lineup. With the addition of Sleep Dealer, although it looks intriguing, I am worried that the lineup is turning into somewhat of a downer. With Moon, 2010, and Ink, those are all pretty serious stuff. I don't know if Galaxina and Godzilla are enough to balance that out.

We'll see what else transpires. I hope there are some things cooking so the rest of the lineup doesn't end up feeling thrown together at the last minute.

And I am relieved that goofy short announced on the film page is not feature length. I don't know if I could handle three full length Japanese films. That's just not my thing, no offense to you guys.

Yeah, I kept holding out hope Buckaroo would make it but it just doesn't seem like it will. But you never know...

LOL, well, I tend to love Japanese cinema, although I prefer more modern films than the feature length ones we're getting this year. ^_^

No Buckaroo Banzi? That's OK. There's always next year. There is the trailers, Spaceboy, Godvzilla VS Monthra, Galaxina, Battle for the light fare.

Sleep Dealer looks pretty interesting. After watching the trailer, I'm looking forward to it quite a bit.

Long Haired Giant Monster: Gehara looks like a great short for the marathon. I love shorts. If they work, then they work, and if they don't, well, they're over soon enough.

Feel free to add more shorts, this year or in future years. More Batman and Buck Rogers serials too.

I tend to lean towards the trailers than shorts. I still wondering if Gravity will return to the Sci Fi thon?

SLEEP DEALER is quite good. Nice low key but solid SF. I hope Ohio gets a FILM print and not a DVD projection as was the case in Boston.

The lineup is still disappointing to me, but I'm sure most Marathoners will have a good time.

Really looking forward to Sleep Dealer (and the rest of the lineup!) Will this be an actual film print?

Jen- I finally saw "Casshern" on DVD last night- I loved it!

Thanks to all involved in organizing the marathon- I really appreciate your hard work and I can't wait for liftoff!

Are the prints of the older sci-fi classics that hard to find? Just wondering since this year's marathon has so many premieres and a much more recent flavor. Since Buckaroo Bonzai isn't available, even the era of late 1970's- 1990 sci-fi moviews are mostly missing from this marathon. :?
