REPO! The Genetic Opera! This would be a lot of fun. Great to see Anthony Stewart Head (Buffy's Giles) and Sarah Brightman getting some film roles :P

REPO looks pretty good. Hope it makes the 'thon.

I think this would be a pretty good lineup:

John Carpenter's The Thing (one of my personal favs)
Hellboy (if Batman is scifi than so is this, good flick with the sequal only months away
Humonoids from the Deep (I haven't bought the DVD because I keep hoping I'll get to see it on the big screen first)
Blue Thunder (good choice to honor Roy)
The X-Files (It's been almost 10 years, and a sequel on the way)
Star Trek II (did Motion Picture last year, might as well keep it up)
Starship Troopers (I've been waiting a long time to see this one again on the big screen)
and/or
Robocop (really anything Verhoeven will do)
I'd love to see some Schwarzenegger, so either...
Predator or The Running Man
Krull (lots of 80s fun)
Wargames (mmm...Ally Sheedy)

Can't think of anything else. I just don't want another repeat of last year when we had to sit through that unbearable Robot war shit. I wanted to kill myself.[/b]

Hellboy and X-Files are inspired choices I have not seen brought up in this discussion before, good call. Some of the others are probably too soon for repeats except maybe Robocop which I am pretty sure is available because it played in Boston last year. WarGames has not aged well. I am of the opinion that you always need a violent action flick that is at least a few years old in the lineup of a good marathon, just like there must always be at least one terrible low budget cheese fest like Robot Monster.

The only probelm with the X-Files is I don't think it stands alone as a movie very well and for folks that didn't watch the series they'd likely find it overly confusing. However, how many marathoids haven't watched the X-Files? That's what I thought. Never mind. :)

I wouldn't mind seeing Wrath of Kahn if there was a quality print like there was for ST:TMP. I'd actually like to see Lost Enterprise again at some pont.

X-Files isn't a bad choice. I haven't seen that in years. And you can never go wrong with Predator or Running Man.

Starship Troopers is one of my all time favorites, but honestly, I'd rather see Starship Troopers Marauder.

Blue Thunder was a fair movie, but nothing great. If you're looking for something with Roy Scheider, 2010 is probably more appropriate. Or better yet, how about Jaws at the horror marathon.

Didn't get to Slither last year. Hell- bring it in for this year's marathon.

Starship Troopers 3 Marauder trailer:

I really should stop getting my hopes up for this movie.
It's extremely unlikely that we'd get it. But it sure would be cool.

And they probably kill Casper Van Dien w/in the 1st 5 minutes of the movie. He's probably just there to hook you in w/a passing reference to the 1st movie. Probably as bad if not worse (couldn't possibly be worse) than the last Starship Troopers movie. Although it looks like they may have also hinted at the battle armor/suits in the trailer.

I wouldn't mind seeing Starship Troopers again, and for that matter I think Slither mentioned earlier would play well. But I'm not enthusiastic about Starship Troopers 3.

What made the Starship Troopers 2 booking cool was not the film itself. It was that Phil Tippett came to introduce it, and Tippett was in my opinion the best guest the marathon has ever had. The movie was solid but typical straight to DVD fare, which I suspect the third is as well.

If the director of 3 were available to introduce, that would be different. The director of Starship Troopers 3 is Ed Neumeier, who wrote all three Starship Troopers as well as writing RoboCop. I'm sure, like Tippett, he would have some great stories to tell.

I'd like to request The Hidden this year. I don't know if it's ever played a marathon before, but it's a hugely underrated '80s sci-fi/action flick. I think it would be a lot of fun with the Marathon crowd.

I remember watching The Hidden at the 2nd marathon. It was shown around 5 or 6am. It was one of the last movies I saw at that marathon before the person I was with said they'd had enough and it was time to go. I was about 13 at the time.
Here's one I don't remember having been mentioned/shown before- Swamp Thing. It's awful. It's cheesy. It's awfully cheezy. It's Wes Craven and Adrienne Barbeau. 'Nuff said.

If we were to borrow anything from the past two Boston marathons I hope it would be Robocop, A Boy and His Dog, 1984, and Buckaroo Bonzai.

It would be hard to top last year's marathon but it's never about that. Whatever Bruce gets will be fine by me, unless it's Automatons 2....

Last year was really good. I just looked up my review from last year, and I'll repeat this one part:

Automatons - One of the most hated movies to play at the marathon in years. This was preposterously long and drawn out for its subject matter and also annoyingly preachy. Please, I beg of you, just for fun next year, lets just watch a 3 minute clip of robots shuffling their feet.

So that's my suggestion for this year. Just show three minutes of those damn salt shakers shuffling their feet, and we'll all appreciate how great the other 23 hours and 57 minutes of this year's marathon will be in comparison.
