Hi Bruce, I can't remember how many seats the big theater in the Drexel has, will you be trying to fill all 3 theaters or just the Big one? Also where will be the best place to park? I know parking is limited around the theater.

^Actually I can answer that for you, since I called and asked them.

294 seats, just a few shy of the Gateway's total, so you might as well say the seating will be about the same.

As for parking I have no idea however.

I know parking will be a HUGE problem unless they can work something out with the police. Also, the neighborhood isn't exactly the greatest so I hope they will have a security person roaming the outside all night. I would still prefer The Arena or someplace better. This seems a little bottom barrel to have it over there. Can't we just stay in one place.

Yea, I was wondering about the neighborhood as well, but to be fair Bruce himself warned us when we were at the Gateway that if we could avoid going outside after dark we should, so our situation hasn't really changed in that regard. As for staying at the same place, well, things just happen I guess and i think it is safe to assume that the ownership change of the Gateway had atleast some part to play in our change of venue this time around.

Just to throw a little reality check into the mix...

I worked at the Bexley Drexel for two and a half years, and have visited intermittently ever since. The neighborhood is about as safe as you can get, unless you take a long trek west on Main St. into the near East side. The building the Drexel is part of is near the entrance to Bexley proper, and the theater itself is directly across the street from Capital U. And the police station is right next door!

Simply put, if you can host a Marathon at your own theater, you do it. It cuts out the potentially prohibitive rental cost associated with an outside house. The Bexley Drexel has comfortable seats in the main house, a good-sized screen and digital sound, plus a fairly nice cafe next door. While the parking is not as large as the Gateway or Grand, it's not that much smaller than what's available in Grandview on a Saturday night, and I'm sure some sort of deal will be in place to allay any concerns.

Thanks, Joe. That answers a lot of questions since I have never been there.

The only things I'm concerned about are comfortable seats and my car not getting busticated.

Oh, and Ro-man getting into the HoF.

I know someone in their IT department. Doubt that would help. Now, I'm thinking I need to scout around up there before I go. The fact I get there so early likely means I won't have too much trouble, but I haven't been back to the Drexel since I moved back from DC.

You know Dennis, even if there's only four available parking spots, your odds of getting one are pretty good. :)

Well I hope the Drexel Radio Cafe would stay open for the marathon. Plus the Radio Cafe does sell beer so bring ID. Eating Popcorn and Soda all night is not good on the digestive system or there will be a free horror show in the restrooms.

I think the Greaters in Bexley is supposed to be re-opened. This is more important than parking or safe streets

It's open. I stopped in the other night when I picked up my ticket.

I was just reading the technical specs of Mershon Auditorium on the OSU campus and wondering why Bruce hasn't attempted to land a marathon there, especially given his Wexner Center connections. They are equipped to show 35mm, 16mm and probably video as well on a 49' screen. And it's a changeover house, so there'd be none of the hassle of trying to run a marathon on a platter system in such a cramped booth as the Drexel East's. Yeah, Mershon is a little BIG, but if the marathon were restricted to the 900 seats of the main floor (no balcony), that could keep things under control. It's a union house, if I remember correctly, but so was the Riffe Center. There's a huge potential audience from the campus area to fill all those seats, ample parking garage space nearby, and plenty of food across the street. Seems worth a shot... what am I missing?

Any parking info? I haven't seen this anywhere but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place...
