Unfortunately, Lucas wouldn't let us get within a mile of one of his precious prints. I was looking at the Halls of Marathonia and realized that the original War of the Worlds has not been screened at the marathon since the 10th at the Riffe Center. It is definitely time for it to make a return screening!

War of the Worlds is a great choice. What's the deal that the projectionist at the thons soft matte the flims that was shot in the 1:33.1/1:37.1 aspect ratio. I referring to King Kong, War of the Worlds, The Day the Earth Stood Still all shot in the original academy ratio and projected at the academy ratio. Not the movies that was shot open matte and framed at 1:78.1/1:85.1 for the theatrical prints. Since the special effects are framed at those two aspect ratios, and the pan and scan or fullscreen version those special effects sometimes get cropped out. Example Jason X. I'm grateful for him/her/other (trying to be gender neutral) Don't they know that they supposed to have unused space on the sides. When I watch the old New Adventures of Superman (1966) cartoon, I make sure there are "bars" on the side of my HDTV.

That John Malkovich? Well It is time to update the tech info list. It is based on an Role Playing Game? Is this wise? movies that are based on games video or other don't do so well.

Are you sure you want to screen this movie? People don't want to see a movie that is based on a game. This is the first time I criticized one of your choices and I hope this will be the last. Please reconsider.

I can go for any movie with Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman in it. They may not get nominated for too many Oscars, but they can generally provide an entertaining performance.

Excellent! I could care less what it's based on, as long as it's GOOD. Bring it on!

Still hoping for stuff like TerrorVision,It Came Without Warning,Buck Rogers,Green Slime,NightBeast,Laserblast,King Kong vs. Godzilla,Bloodsuckers From Outer Space, etc. There are still quite a few empty spots only days before the marathon. Hope all pans out well but right now it's looking a little boring. Logan's Run seems to be the saving grace. Hope we'll have a guest, too.

Having Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman in a movie doesn't make it good. For example Father's Day. Billy Crystal and Robin Williams are two great comics but put them in a movie together it was a disaster. Maybe Mutant Chronicles might be good but game based movies generally are terrible. See Uwe Boll.

Well, yeah, but that's Uwe Boll. That man has an Anti-Midas Touch when it comes to turning video games into movies.

Also, speak for yourself on wanting to see films based on games. If anything, the fact that it's based on a tabletop RPG has me even more intrigued.

I'm generally liking the line-up so far, although I'm noting a distinct lack of black-and-white goodness. Also, is it known if Time Crimes / Los Cronocrimenes is going to be dubbed or subbed? (although past marathons would lead me to believe it's the latter...)

I would agree that video game based movies generally are terrible. Since this is not based on a video game, the rule does not apply. The advance word has been good on Mutant Chronicles, so I say let's give it a chance. It's not like they booked Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li or something like that!

The D and D movie that was released in the early 2000's was not that great and that was based on an tabletop game as well.

The last movie the director directed was a direct to DVD movie called Lighthouse and that movie was panned.

The first Street Fighter movie is better than that tranwreck The Legend of Chun Li.

Since we seem to need some older/classic sci fi movies, I thought of some that have never been seen at the marathon:

Crack in the World

On the Beach

The Quartermass Experiment (or either sequal)

The 27th Day

The Trollenberg Terror

The Last Man on Earth - really surprised that this has never been screened

Dr Who and the Daleks

Zardoz

Highlander

Outland

The Time Machine (1960) - has shown once way back in SF-3

Panic in the Year Zero

Any of these would be interesting and would balance the newer movies with older scifi.
