I will echo the calls for good personal hygiene.

However, I'm fully aware that the two stinky guys will be there again, as they always are, and I don't think they get on the internet a whole lot.

Also, don't forget, NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR YOU ARE DOOMED.

I try to stay awake for the entire marathon, so for me, bringing a pillow and blanket would just be admitting defeat. lol. I am also a BIG fan of the Radio Café, they serve one of the best burgers I’ve had. Energy supplements (drinks, gum, etc.) are also a must. Getting up and walking around between films helps alot, too.

Oh, I'm a "stay awake" guy too. But I find the comfort of the pillow and blanket to still be a must.

I try to stay awake as well. It seems that every year that I fall asleep at the thon I have some weird dream that I'm standing in the isle watching the screen then seeing myself sleeping.

No I don't see a giant rabbit and then see a house on the screen leave the theater and then be at some house that contains child porn and burn the house down.

I hope you got the movie ref.

I stopped bringing pillows, partly because it made it too hard to stay awake and partly because I kept having them slip through and get marathon ooze on them at which point they were mostly unusable.

I agree with the deodorant and shower comments, though my High School vocal music teacher could not wear the deodorant/antiperspirant due to an allergy issue. Very meticulous man, had waxed handlebar mustache, always well dressed, so it wasn't that he didn't want to use it. He couldn't.

And yes, the Cafe makes great burgers (the chicken is good as well.) They take a bit of time which means you may miss something, but they are really good. My only regret is they have Coke products, of which I only really like Cherry Coke. And even too much of that gets old.

I love the cafe. I just hope it stays open 24 hours, like it did for last year's sci fi marathon, instead of closing as it did at the horror thon.

I bring a sweatshirt and jacket, but no pillow or blanket.

I always bring a book, but I never get around to opening it

You get in line at 6AM? Why?

There's two reasons I get there early, neither of them entirely rational.

The first is that I'm picky about where I sit in the theatre. I want to be close, but not nosebleed close. I want to sit near an aisle, because I know I get up and down a lot during the films. And I like the side areas, because I prefer to sit surrounded by my friends and not in the middle of the big aisles sitting next to people I don't know. And in a normal viewing of a movie, I might not care. But if I'm going to sit in the same seat for 24 hours, it matters to me.

The second reason is the chance to catch up and chat with folks before the marathon. There's a regular gang who gets there early, and we have fun talking films, television and our day-to-day lives before the thon. Since I see some of these folks only once or twice a year, 5 hours is plenty to chat.

Well said AEinhorn,

I get there around 6:39AM on 03.28.2009. That is when the bus get to the Drexel. Now I'm outing myself this year, (not that outing, well there isn't anything wrong with that) I'll be carrying the largest bottle of NOS Energy Drink. That when you will see the face that goes with Willcail. Username is nothing more my first and last mush together.

I do want to get a good seat as well and get settle in. When the Sci Fi Thon was at the Grand I got there late from working third shift. Since I have a semi normal job with semi normal hours I can get a good night rest, or try to, get showed, get my things, (two cell phones, one is for backup when the battery of my new one gets low.) ect.

I like to answer the stupid questions that the civilians ask. Like the last year at the Gateway people were asking us why are standing outside. Someone replies that they're were waiting for Stone Cold Creamery to open.

I try to control my babbling after drinking that whole bottle of NOS. I don't want to start sounding like the The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight.

Well it 14 days and counting.

I actually like nosebleed close, centered. I've found arriving 90 minutes before hand has gotten me those seats every time I've gone.

If I do decide to cat nap it would be during Mutant Cronicles. I will watch the first 30mins then decide to take a nap.

I'm not a big fan of any movie that was based on any games. The only one I can watch is Clue.

Maybe I’m a masochist, but I find that discomfort helps me stay awake.

Like Aeinhorn, I like a certain seat. I like to be about midway back and in the middle. Though at the East that works out to about 6 rows from the back. I don't like to get a crink in my neck. I do get up and perhaps I should consider the aisle (or a prostate exam) but I like to see the screen straight on.

For a few years when I was living in DC and they had reserved seats at the Grand, I would buy middle of the balcony. I still tended to get there early, though the year we adopted Sergei I didn't get there until almost 11. As Aaron said, we like to just sit or stand and discuss a wide range of topics. It is usually quite the exercise in Free Association. And Bob usually brings some kind of game to play. The zombie card game last year was a blast.

Ooh, that reminds me. Since the Marathon, I went out and picked up the Monty Python version of Fluxx. Perhaps I should bring it this year...
