Dare I say it?

I find the initial list a tad disappointing. Sure, some of the thunder is taken away from those of us who attend the Boston Marathon, but, even so, the announced films are just ok.

One thing that IS interesting is that we were told in Boston that no print existed of either version of GODZILLA VS MOTHRA, and it's booked for Ohio just a few weeks later. Curious.

I know there are more in the works, so keep tuned in. As busy as Bruce has been, I think he's got his eye on quite a good lineup, so I don't think anyone will be disappointed.

2010 is a "Globvious" and very welcome. I don't think I've seen it since it last played the Marathon. Moon is a must for anyone who hasn't seen it (IMHO.) Galaxina definitely fills out the cheese quotient (among other things), and I'm all hip to that.

I could do without the Abrams Star Trek, myself, but that's only because having seen it four times in the theater (and never revising my initial opinion that it only rated 3.5 stars out of 5) I really don't feel a need to revisit it.

Still, I'm excited. I mean, what else do I have to do on the Saturday after tax-day, anyway? :)

The lineup is a big improvement from last year. Movies I've haven't seen or watch for an nth time. It is refreashing to see a 1990's Godzilla movie for a change.

Well early indicators suggested Buckaroo would show...it may still. I'm waiting for confirmation one way or the other. :)

If it turns up, it would be a great film to end on. I have been whistling the theme song for a couple weeks now. I can't think of a better way to send us all on our way come Sunday afternoon:

I really hope this shows, I'm a big fan of this movie. (if that wasn't obvious by my quote)

Indeed,LA Connection, indeed. Where's the obscure and fun stuff like The Green Slime,Without Warning,TerrorVision,The Sci-Fi Boys(one of the best docs ever,by the way),King Kong Vs. Godzilla,Dreams with Sharp Teeth, etc.
Looks like a possible yawner. I hope no DVD projection again. The couple behind me last year did enough complaining for 5 people. If it's going to come down to that I think people can just stay home and watch stuff from the Walmart $5 Bin. I think it's the rare and obscure items that will bring out the people.

If they show Buckaroo Banzai they should invite Billy Vera who played Pinky or Damon Hines who played Scooter. Been talking with them for years and they seem like they'd be some nice attendees. Great guys.

I do hope that anyone disappointed with the film lineup doesn't bother to show up. I would hate to sit in an audience with whiny complainers rather than enthusiastic fans, so please feel free to not buy a ticket.

If you don't like this event, you can go program your own marathon. Fill the lineup with whatever you want and go enjoy yourself. With the proper advertising angle, perhaps you may even get some of "the people" to show up.

Personally, I don't have the funds or resources to do that, so I appreciate what is given to me. Every single great marathon experience for me has been from something I wasn't expecting, so I don't like to judge a marathon based merely on an incomplete lineup announcement.

This is a partial list and more announcements to come. Remember it comes down to film print availability and rental costs. I don't think the Columbus 24 Hour Science Fiction Marathon would attract much people if the tickets cost 50 to 70 dollars. This is Columbus and not Boston. Bruce is able to obtain Heisei-era Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (US title) Heisei Godzilla prints are hard to come by. I do hope that Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth will be in its original Japanese with english subtitles and of course in OAR.

Yes I do have issues with last year lineup, but I went anyway to support the Columbus Ohio 24 Hour Sci Fi Thon. Moon is a overlook film. Ink one of the most independent film to be pirate via P2P software. I watch the trailer for Ink and I can't wait to see it. Reboot Trek yes I've seen it many times and it is better than any of the ST:TNG film's. (With the exception of First Contact)

Battle for Outer Space and Galaxina to fill out the cheese. I'm can't wait to see the other 3-5 movies (depends on the runtime) that Bruce to pick.

As one of the few who can say they have been to EVERY marathon since the beginning I will always be there,it's just sad that times and whatever other reasons have reduced the "EVENT" that it used to be,to the smaller lackluster affair it is now. Maybe I'm holding on to the glory memories of the Drexel North marathons I grew up with but I just want these marathons to get bigger and better but they don't seem to be going that way.

I think Infa Kid misses the point. That it cost money ro get the film prints. Plus the prints must be available. If a print isn't available then they can't screen it. This is a commercial venture and they have to obey the laws. Last year they were able to get Logan's Run when the nay sayers said it couldn't be obtain. To me it seems that you were one of the complaners and like to project.

The Drexel North held about 800 people, the current Drexel seats about 250... you do the math.

Infra-Kid is not a bad guy, he just needs to take off his rose colored glasses when he reminisces about past marathons, that is all.

This year is going to be great... if for no other reason than it is great that 23 years later we still have a marathon to go to.

The Drexel North era is now over. Like Superman from Pre Crisis of the infinite Earths Earth-2 he's not coming back. (Well OK He's a zombie but still he is dead)

I don't think Infa-Kid how hard to obtain a Heisei-era Godzilla movie? Damn near impossible. There's your rare hard to find movie.

Ink a highly overlook movie. More overlook than Moon.

Boy,telling people not to come to an already fleeting attendance seems like a bad salesmanship plan but I guess you are trying to have the marathon all to yourselves so it should be interesting to see all 2 people next year.
I am indeed probably wearing some rosecolored glasses about the Drexel North days but that is no reason for lack of passion and not trying which I fear is the current problem. I am proud that there is a marathon still up and running and I've always went since the late 80s(which were MUCH more fun) but that doesn't mean to stop trying. A few people on this board seems to be the epitome of the phrase "People don't eat, they just take what they are fed". I know there are a multitude of prints out there, you just have to leave Columbus. I know several people who attend Cinema Wasteland who have 100s of film prints. Why are they not being tapped to help out? And remember I have programmed my own marathons. I did The All Night Shriek O Ramas down in Delaware. They told me I'd never get Blood Feast, too. We got Blood Feast. It's amazing what a couple calls and emails can get you. We also showed a print of House That Screamed which hadn't been shown since the 70s. I take much pride in that.
As for the Godzilla films,I speak at the Godzilla convention in Chicago(G-Fest) and there have been many prints of Godzilla and Toho films shown there. If you all remember,I was the one who posted that a 35mm King Kong Vs. Godzilla print was available last year and it was NOT gotten. What a shock!
But I will hold onto my memories of great days and marathons of years ago and will still attend the marathons but let's just say I know the possibilities of what this marathon was and could become. Somewhere down the line it lost its path.
