2 other films I would love to have considered for the 2011 sci fi marathon are:
Silent Running
Alien Raiders
If you all haven't seen Alien Raiders yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. I wanted to see this movie so bad for a long time, then finally found it at a library. I LOVE it!

Every year the Boston and Ohio Marathons seem to have at least 2 or 3 films that overlap. So, with that in mind, here are my notes on which Boston films from this February might make a good showing there in Ohio. My complete Marathon recap can be found here: http://www.scifimarathon.com/phpBB2/vie ... php?t=1027 OR http://sf.theboard.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya ... 8126/34#34

Some films such as BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, LADY TERMINATOR, MOTHRA, STAR TREK 2009 and THE HOST (horror) have all played Ohio recently, so they aren't as likely to show.

20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (1916) - I liked this as a silent film more than some in Boston, but there is no doubt that as an experience with live music it was a treat. And, we got a very good accompanist (Jeff Rapsis). Much would depend on who was hired to do the music.

METROPIA - Dreary euro animation in a 1984-ish vein. Not bad, but Ohio can find a lot better animation choice. And, not really a premiere either since it's out on DVD.

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000: THE MOVIE - A must! Went over very well with the Boston crowd. It has never showed the Ohio 'thon (although it showed in 1999 in Pickerington). Rare print from a private collector (I have the info) - even the studio doesn't have a copy for rent!

THE QUIET EARTH - Kind of surprised that this has never shown in Ohio! Having now seen it 3 times, this is definately one of the most underrated SF gems of the 80s. Show it in the wee hours after the natives have gotten their restlessness outta them (it IS a very QUIET movie). We had some print problems in Boston, which hopefully the distributor can fix for Ohio.

MONSTERS - One of last year's most notable indie SF films. Well done for the budget, even if I personally don't think it amounts to much in the end.

VIDEODROME - A lot depends on one's tolerance for early Cronenberg. Not one of my personal faves, but it held up much better than I expected. Last played at the 1996 Living Drexel marathon.

LAST WOMAN ON EARTH - A lot depends on one's tolerance for early Roger Corman. I found this interesting, but the "color" print is fully magenta.

ZONAD - Boston's "premiere" this year (it has also played a couple of other fests). It's dumb, stupid, gross and kinda charming. It played well with the Boston crowd, but this is one of those hit or miss things that if it strikes the audience in the wrong way - it could lay an egg.

HA! The screening you're referring to was actually at a 48-hour(!) video Marathon that I held in a friend's basement. It was one of three I organized during the stretch from '95-'97 when the original Night of the Living Drexel had passed away and there was no real Horror Marathon in town. Due to the tireless efforts of a certain Mr. Zecchini, these video Marathons have now somehow made their way into event history.

Amazingly enough, Videodrome has never played at a (real) Columbus Marathon! It was on the flier for the 1999 Sci-Fi Marathon, but had to be dropped due to print problems. We've discussed it for the Horror Marathon several times, so don't be surprised if it pops up sometime soon.

Videodrome played with a beautiful print in Chicago a couple of years ago. I'd never turn down any Cronenberg.

I just watched the 1988 version of "The Blob" and LOVED it! It would be a great, fun flick for the marathon. I hope this year's lineup features more films like this. I go to the marathon to see great throwback and classic sci-fi films I would never be able to see on the big screen otherwise. That's what hooked me from my very first 'thon. Bring on the classics and cheese!

This might be a bit out there, but how about the 1990 Captain America movie? It's certainly topical this year.

The only reason I even thought of this is because I just saw an article mentioning that the director, Albert Pyun, was working on some sort of director's cuts versions of both Captain America and Cyborg (starring Van Damme). That's the type of stuff that may never see the light of day outside of marathons like this, so I vote for either Captain America or Cyborg (or both!!) if they're at all available.

I love THE BLOB '88 in fact I am going the the Chicago Sci-Fi Marathon this weekend mainly to see THE BLOB '88 and meet the director. One of the few remakes that holds up to the original.

Captain America (1990) is about available as the Roger Corman's produced Fantastic Four. That will be a find the Roger Corman's Fantastic Four.

The only reason I mentioned it is because this article
http://twitchfilm.com/news/2011/03/the-never-before-seen-directors-cut-of-cyborg-unearthed.php
mentioned the director's cuts of these 2 movies (Cyborg and Captain America) possibly becoming available. The stated timeframe likely wouldn't work for our marathon, but it never hurts to ask.

Since there isn't any news on about this year's marathon or if there is going to be one. It might be possible that one or both movies might become available for the thon.
