Interior of 1996 program279 viewsTHE RAPTURE was one of my early stabs at creative programming. I still think that it's a fascinating film. (Neff)Sep 06, 2009

Front and back cover of 1996 program291 views*Yes, Argento and Price take their bow once again.
*Note that, despite the protestations over the years to the contrary, Jessica Harper is NOT topless on the program cover, merely the victim of bad lighting and a monochrome program cover.
*De Palma's SISTERS was cut from the lineup mid-Marathon, in order to get us all the hell out of there at a reasonable hour. (48 Hours!? What was I thinking!?!?!?) (Neff)Sep 06, 2009

*My 32-year old self really admires my 19-year old self for going off all philosophical with the Argento and Cronenberg quotes. (Neff)Sep 06, 2009
Interior of 1996 program269 viewsAt the previous year's Marathon, I had erroneously bought the infamous R-rated video version of RE-ANIMATOR, hence its re-screening in uncut form. (Neff)Sep 06, 2009

Hall of Fame ballot for the 1995 Marathon325 viewsKevin S. O'Brien was officially elected by the audience (LONG LIVE THE SECRET BREAD EMPIRE!) I'm pretty sure that I later added Bruce to the HOF on my own, as reflected in the next year's program. Whether this ace bit of brown-nosing eventually led to our current partnership, I cannot say. Credit page for 1995 program396 viewsSuch was my advanced stage Marathon Mania, that the "prizes" from the Drexel North were mainly fliers for films that had shown there. Yep, I was hooked pretty bad.
Steve Miller, my long time partner-in-crime, also organized a Twin Peaks video Marathon from 1994-1997. That event included the series pilot, all 29 episodes, TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME, a costume contest (I was a three time winner as Bobby Briggs, Frank Booth and Killer Bob), Steve's basement decorated as The Black Lodge, copious amounts of coffee, donuts and pie and much sleep-deprived madness. Those were the days. Steve is currently in charge of the pin trading division at Disney headquarters in Florida. He is still crazy as a loon and one of my best friends. (Neff)Sep 06, 2009

Interior of 1995 program375 viewsThe Surprise Horror Classic was David Lynch's ERASERHEAD. Not the first time that would show at a Marathon I organized. The "?" film was George Romero's MARTIN. This was the first time I had seen it. (Neff)Sep 06, 2009

"So Joe" you might say, "why DR. STRANGELOVE at a Horror Marathon?" Well, I saw STRANGELOVE for the first time at that spring's 9th Annual Sci-Fi Marathon (the final edition at our dear, departed Drexel North-R.I.P.), and needless to say, it affected my friends and I in a most profound manner. Plus, I didn't know if I would ever organize one of these puppies again, so I threw in a bunch of films I loved (and had copies of, which was also a crucial programming factor at that first event.) Little did I know what the future held... (Neff)Sep 06, 2009
