SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK

The 10th Annual Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon
AT THE DREXEL THEATER (2254 E. MAIN ST., COLUMBUS, OHIO)
NOON, OCTOBER 13 - NOON, OCTOBER 14

A CELEBRATION OF 30 YEARS OF OHIO 24-HOUR HORROR MARATHONS! It's.....SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK - The 10th Annual Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon!

1988 marked the debut of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DREXEL, the 1st Annual Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon (and possibly the first horror event of its kind in the country.) The ensuing 30 years have seen the Horror Marathon mutate into several forms, leaving a path of filmic insanity and destruction in its wake. Now, SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK celebrates its 10th year of ‘round the clock terror in a dual tribute to the 30th Anniversary of the Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathons, with a mammoth celebration of cinematic excess featuring the cutting edge of modern horror, genre classics, and several rediscoveries. This year's lineup includes:

  • The OHIO PREMIERE of LUZ, the hypnotic demonic-possession shocker that has been wowing audiences on the festival circuit, and is set to have its U.S. Premiere at this year's Fantastic Fest. The debut feature from German director Tillman Singer, it's the story of a young cab-driver and her terror-filled night in a run-down police station. Birth Movies Death calls it "A stunning debut," and Slash/Film lauds it as "daring, unconventional, and downright demonic."
  • The U.S. PREMIERE of CRYSTAL EYES, a delirious tribute to Italian horror cinema from Argentinian directors Ezequiel Endelman and Leandro Montejano. In 1985 Buenos Aires, the one year anniversary of the death of an eccentric supermodel triggers a new wave of brutal slayings. With style to spare and a twisted sense of humor, CRYSTAL EYES nods to the best work of Mario Bava, Dario Argento, and Sergio Martino.
  • The MIDWEST PREMIERE of HAGAZUSSA: A HEATHEN'S CURSE. In the vein of such recents hits as THE WITCH, director Lukas Feigelfeld's period piece shocker is soaked in atmospheric dread, as spiritual horrors run rampant in 15th century Europe. The Hollywood Reporter calls it "A spooky, stylish, spellbinding debut," and Birth Movies Death praises it as "Visually stunning...a nightmarish slow burn."
  • George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino in the Tarantino-penned, Robert Rodriguez-directed vampire/road movie romp FROM DUSK TILL DAWN! With an all-star cast including Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lews, Salma Hayek, and genre stalwarts Fred “The Hammer” Williamson, Tom Savini, Danny Trejo, and Cheech Marin!
  • David Lynch's nightmarish, mind-bending, modern classic LOST HIGHWAY! Or as Lynch himself called it "A 21st Century Noir Horror Film. A graphic investigation into parallel identity crises. A world where time is dangerously out of control. A terrifying ride down the lost highway." With Bill Pullman and Patricia Arquette, and in brain-melting w i d e s c r e e n Panavision!
  • The gorgeous new 4K restoration of Dario Argento's uber-stylish proto slasher DEEP RED, in an extended cut never before released in the U.S.! In blood-soaked w i d e s c r e e n Techniscope!
  • Sam Neill, Charlton Heston, and Jurgen Prochnow in John Carpenter's skin-crawling Lovecraftian tour de force IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS! In senses-shattering w i d e s c r e e n Panavision!
  • Deborah Kerr in Jack Clayton's marvelously creepy THE INNOCENTS! Truman Capote adapts Henry James's "The Turn of the Screw" for the big screen in one of the most frightening cinematic ghost stories of all time. Featuring gorgeous BLACK AND WHITE w i d e s c r e e n CinemaScope photography by the legendary Freddie Francis!
  • In honor of her return to the genre, a rare screening of Horror icon Jamie Lee Curtis in the Canuxploitation slasher favorite TERROR TRAIN!
  • A 35mm screening of special effects maestro Stan Winston's directorial debut, the atmospheric monster revenge film PUMPKINHEAD! Starring beloved genre icon Lance Henriksen!
  • Scream Queen Linnea Quigley in the 1988 demons run amok on Halloween gore classic NIGHT OF THE DEMONS! In glorious 35mm!
  • Michael (DEATH WISH) Winner's utterly deranged Nancy Drew goes to Hell 1984 slasher thriller SCREAM FOR HELP!

PLUS! Coffinloads of 35mm trailers and shorts! The 10th Annual Costume Contest (with $100 First Prize!) The 10th Annual Scream Contest! Rare footage and memorabilia from 30 years of Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathons! And more surprises!

Tickets for SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK are ON SALE at the Drexel Theatre (2254 E. Main St./cash or charge), Laughing Ogre Comics (4258 N. High St./cash only) or via PayPal at this website. Advance tix are $40, with a bump to $45 the day of show (if there are any left.) Reserve your place now for what promises to be a landmark night of terror!

A NIGHT OF UNBRIDLED CINEMATIC MADNESS! A HEART-STOPPING PLUNGE INTO YOUR NIGHTMARES! It's.....SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK - The 9th Annual Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon!

Nine times the horror! Nine times the fright! SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK returns from the grave for another terror-filled rotation of the planet! Through several different incarnations, the Horror Marathon has been bringing Columbus the best in new and classic terror since 1988, and regularly draws dedicated attendees from 11 different states (stretching as wide as California and New York). This year's celebration of cinematic excess features a powerhouse lineup of films, including:

  • A tribute to the late George A. Romero featuring CREEPSHOW, his beloved E.C. Comics-inspired collaboration with Stephen King, and MARTIN, his underrated ‘70s vampire drama.

Starring genre favorite Barbara Crampton (RE-ANIMATOR) and Rebecca Forsythe (daughter of famed character actor William Forsythe), it’s hypnotic tour de force about a young woman seeking decidedly unconventional means to stop the rapid degeneration of her skin. Birth Movies Death calls it “The best thing at Fantastia International Film Festival this year, and one you absolutely must keep on your radar until you’re able to see it for yourself.”

Graham Skipper, well-known to horror fans for his work on BEYOND THE GATES and RE-ANIMATOR: THE MUSICAL, takes the director’s reins for this sci-fi/horror hybrid about a reclusive video game technician and the strange machine that plunges him into a dark and mysterious world. Nightmarish Conjurings lauds it as “Altered States meets Videodrome.”

SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK

The 8th Annual Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon
AT THE DREXEL THEATER (2254 E. MAIN ST., COLUMBUS, OHIO)
NOON, OCTOBER 15 - NOON OCTOBER 16

A NIGHT OF UNBRIDLED CINEMATIC MADNESS! A HEART-STOPPING PLUNGE INTO YOUR NIGHTMARES! It's.....SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK - The 8th Annual Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon!

Back from the dead and ready for another terror-filled rotation of the planet, SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK presents a cavalcade of punk zombies, undead bloodsuckers, and malevolent maniacs, all in the luxury of the newly renovated Drexel Theater! Columbus's longtime terror tradition, this year's celebration of cinematic excess features a powerhouse lineup of films and special attractions, including:

  • A rare screening of Carl Theodor Dreyer's dreamlike classic VAMPYR, with LIVE MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT by the stellar Sue Harshe. You might remember Sue from her memorable live score to THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI at the 2011 SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK. We're very excited to welcome her back to the Nightmarathon for what promises to be a singular cinematic experience.
  • The OHIO PREMIERE of the affectionate 80's horror/fantasy throwback BEYOND THE GATES, with the film's producer and co-writer Stephen Scarlata IN PERSON to discuss the film with the Nightmarathoid faithful! Produced by Barbara Carmpton, it's the story of two brothers whose quest to find their missing father leads them to a VCR board game with access to another world. Featuring cast members from RE-ANIMATOR: THE MUSICAL, it's been called "fun and spooky" by Dread Central.
  • The MIDWEST PREMIERE of the absolutely deranged Mexican shocker WE ARE THE FLESH, the debut feature from director Emiliano Rocha Minter. A nightmare descent into depravity, it's been tearing up the festival circuit this year. Fangoria calls it "the real deal" and "a singular vision unlike anything else you may experience," and 2-time Academy Award-winning director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has given it his seal of approval. Definitely not for the squeamish!
  • The OHIO PREMIERE of the wild, splatterific, STDs gone bonkers THE NIGHT OF SOMETHING STRANGE. FrightFest UK calls it "Outrageous, offensive, bloody to the BRAINDEAD max, and hilariously entertaining." We can't wait to experience it with this audience!
  • A rare 35mm screening of Dan O'Bannon's zombie splatter comedy classic THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD!
  • A tribute to the late David Bowie with a screening of his iconic, erotic vampire chiller THE HUNGER! Also starring the luminous Catherine Deneuve and the sensual Susan Sarandon, it's the tale of upscale New York bloodsuckers fighting off the passage of time and the encroaching dawn.
  • The NEW DCP RESTORATION of the late Andrzej (POSSESSION) Zulawski's THE DEVIL! Immediately banned upon release in Poland, it led to Zulawski's exile to France. The Cinefamily has called it "a blood-splattered rampage through a war-charred 1790s Poland that turns the historical epic inside out, and dances on its carcass."
  • An ultra-rare 35mm screening of the spectacularly bonkers Shaw Brothers kung fu, black magic, day-glo blood splattered epic THE BOXER'S OMEN!
  • A tribute to the late Wes Craven with his underrated horror thriller THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS!

The cinelycanthropic monster that is SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK was beaten to death by Claude Rains's silver handled wolf beating stick. Or maybe it just finally fell asleep for a long deserved nap. Either way, it now lays dormant for another year. But be warned: the Wolfsbane will bloom again, and the full moon will return!

INFAMOUS FOREIGN SHOCKER & INDIE CHILLER TO PREMIERE AT 3RD ANNUAL MARATHON!

Posted by Joe on October 8, 2011

INFAMOUS FOREIGN SHOCKER A SERBIAN FILM & INDIE CHILLER MIDNIGHT SON TO PREMIERE AT 3RD ANNUAL OHIO 24-HOUR HORROR MARATHON!

SHOCK AROUND THE CLOCK, the 3rd Annual Ohio 24-Hour Horror Marathon (October 15-16 at the Grandview Theatre) is proud to announce the addition of two area premieres to its already stacked lineup of terror classics and rediscoveries!

First up is the OHIO THEATRICAL PREMIERE of Srdan Spasojevic's internationally infamous shocker A SERBIAN FILM, the most controversial, gut-churning, uncompromising, no holds barred film of the decade! And we're proud to present it UNCUT and UNRATED! This gross out epic is the tender story of a former adult film star who is lured back into the game for one last shoot (SPOILER: things don't go well.) Grab your barf bags and gird your loins,'cause this one is a rough ride indeed, a taboo shattering nightmare that also serves as a pointed political commentary on the war torn soul of Serbia.

Also screening will be the MIDWEST PREMIERE of acclaimed indie chiller MIDNIGHT SON, which has been making its way through the festival circuit throughout this year. The story of a young man cursed by disease to avoid the sunlight and drink human blood, MIDNIGHT SON has been compared to George Romero's Martin and was acclaimed by Bloody Disgusting's Brad Miska as "an impeccable, daring and undoubtedly remarkable debut." Check out the trailer and more at www.midnightsonmovie.com.
